toon88
why WOULD a yankee fan have condolences for the Mets or their fans? I'm pretty sure Mets fans would be having a field day if the shoe was on the other foot here. Suck it up Met fans, we have to take the beating that is coming. No excuses, this was an epic collapse that has never been done before! Our only hope is Cleveland pulls off the upset, that will take the focus off the Mets for a while around here, but I have no faith that will happen. Either way, it is going to be a LONNNGGGGGGGG off season in Queens.

Don't fire anyone. Go back to the drawing board and GET YOUNGER. I guess I should have been born a Met fan. The Jets, had the Chargers in the suicide pool and my own team lost by two on intercepted extra point being run back for a TD. Twice! Yanks are the only team I like that didn't **** the bed Sunday. Oh yeah, I went to Rutgers too.
Mavrik
That pitching staff and bullpen were garbage. It was amazing to me that they got this far in the first place. Relying on a 40+ year old pitcher and an aging Pedro isn't going to get you a WS, much less a division.
faba
It is tough way to lose to breakdown at the end. Relying on a 40+ year old pitcher and an aging Pedro isn't going to get you a WS, much less a division. True. it was a little surprising that they remained atop the NL East for most of the season with that decrepit staff. It's uncanny how much yesterday's game reminded me of the 7th game of the NLCS when Darling imploded in the first inning and the Dodgers scored 7 runs. I think that was in 88? That game was horrible and I suffered through it. Yesterday I had the diversion of watching a meek Jets team lose while I kept the baseball game on the radio. I dont think they should fire Willie, and Omar said he wont if it is up to him. We'll have to see how Wilpon feels about it.

Ummm, I kinda like Beltran in Center Field, and I like what Gomez brought to the team. I am comfortable with another year of Castillo at 2nd base, if he signs reasonably. Why would the Mets not keep Oliver Perez? Have you watched the Mets?

Relying on a 40+ year old pitcher and an aging Pedro isn't going to get you a WS, much less a division. Tell us how old Kenny Rogers was last season when he was a huge part of the Tigers getting to the WS? The starting staff was fine. The pen blew up and we collapsed. Detroit doesn't get a free pass on their season either my friend if you insist on critiquing. 90% of MLB would have went to war with Pedro-Glavine-Maine-Perez. Unfortunately collapses happen and as Met fans we are taking our hits but the staff was far from garbage.

The BP was the first part of the staff to implode, but the starting pitching was pretty shaky since the ASB and couldnt get anyone out the past two weeks, too. A staff consisting of El Duque, Glavine and a rehabbing Pedro is too much to ask any bullpen to support. Add inm subsequent meltdowns by Maine and Perez, and you have a recipe for disaster. An ace for teh staff to step forward would slot everyone very nicely. Who he is and where he comes from is another story. The bullpen will need help also. They have a few chips to trade smartly. True but as a GM or Manager who was there to replace them with? The only guy who had a horrible ERA post ALL-Star break was Maine and you don't remove that type arm from your rotation. Omar will add a pitcher or two...He smartly IMO stayed out of last winters FA pitching market as with the exception of Lilly, the majority were busts. Like all of us in April, Omar figured that staff was good enough with our line-up. The pen was the bigger issue in my opinion and post roids era I think all bullpens will fluctuate in performance year to year. I sure thought our pen was all set when the season began and all deadline middle relief moves failed for other teams unless you had a call up like Joba. Many of us predicted the Phils in the pre-season but having the division all but wrapped only to collapse kills you.
