Blackout
best season by a 3rd basemen of all time better than Schmidt in the early 80s; better than Mathews or Chipper's peaks, better than Pie Traynor ANY of them and he beat out Papi in OPS on the final day of the year (1.067 to 1.066) congrats on MVP #

Sharrow
Some Pirate fans have been using 1960-2007 average stats to try and say that most of the team was actually above average. Enough said.
mbn007
Bottom line: A-Rod just finished one of the best overall regular seasons in Baseball in the past 50+ years. The thing that gets me is the approx. 300 runs + RBIs. Now that is something!!

#27TheDominator
Yup, an awesome year at an opportune time. Interesting. Is that supposed to mean that he did it for his contract? I'd find it hard to believe he'd be clutch for his contract and choke in the playoffs. Personally, I don't believe either. I just think the guy is a monster and Yankee fans standards are too high. I think SD was just stating that it was a great time to have such a year with a "opt-out" on the horizon. i don't think he was insinuating ARod played better this year because of the opt-out. if you did SD, i stand corrected. 27, you are correct, ARod is a monster, one of the best players to ever play the game when he is done, and probably the best player that most of us will ever get to see play. BUT, I'm sure most Yankee fans, and alot of other fans for that matter, will judge him on his postseason production.
nugentfan1
alex had an unbelievable season and i think he'll only finish it off with a great post season. regardless of what he does in the post season though, he is the reason why the yankees are even in there to begin with. im a yankee fan but im a bigger arod fan and he is the reason why they made it there. anskyruben
If he lays a big egg in the postseason, I could give 2 squirts about his regular season numbers. This is the NY Yankees, not the Padres. No E's are given out here for effort. Bring us another ring. That's all I care about. I will never lower my standards.
Maxman
You can't compare numbers of different players from different eras. Different game. Can you or can't you? Where did I say qauntify it slightly. I said don't make sweeping statements from them. That is certainly not "slightly", Max, are you saying that baseball has not changed? That the variables are not different? That numbers from say a player in the 70's can be compared to the numbers from a player present day? Quantify Rich Gossage to Mariano Rivera, please. Through stats alone. And make the conclusions absolute.

Andruw Jones kinda screwed up the formula. But you are right, it is uncanny. Look where Aaron Rowand came from to this year.

Jones will still get his money. I still think he will get Beltran money, and maybe even Sori money. But you are right, he lost out on his chance to get that 8 year, 160 million contract (Manny money).

Expect him to publish a book, extolling how many runs Andruw Jones saves, in addition to what he drives in.

Without A-Rod the Yanks would have never sniffed the wild card. Mark my words. IF Arod takes a nap during the playoffs, the Yankees won't even sniff the WS. This is coming from a die hard , big mouth Yankee fan. They need him to show up , and do what he did all year long. I have no doubt that he will. I am pulling for him more than anyone. But he needs to get it done for once in the postseason.
