WHY, Clemens now oppose to week 8 debate...

NY JETS 29

Just some points I have on why Clemens should start now oppose to Week 8 when we can potentially be 1-6/2-5 ...

1. The AFC has a group of 2-2 teams right now which from a record stand point the Jets can get right back into this with a little rally.

2. It's not just the offensive line or running backs (via 2005) that is the problem with the running game, defenses stack 8 in the box and force pennington to make plays which doesnt give our rb's the opportunity to be successful and now that we have a ligit rb in Thomas Jones he needs to excel in order for the passing game to be successful.

3. The sideline to sideline offesne right now is not getting the job done, its our only weapon since we cant establish a run game and pennington cant throw the ball down field.

4. Clemens brings a vertical attack to this offense which will help thomas jones get going because teams will need to respect the arm strength of Clemens

5. Clemens can spark this team NOW, not many teams have enough film to game plan for Clemens just like teams didnt in 2002 with Pennington.

I can go on and on but just some points off the top of my head, many people will proclaim he didnt do much in Baltimore minus is 1 quater, but mt argument to that is the coaches were very conservative with him just like Herm was with Bollinger in 2005. Once they had no choice but to throw the ball in the 4th quater you saw what Clemens was capable of. The Jets had to take the leash off or they wouldnt have been playing to win. I was there as long with some of us here and the place was loud in the 4th quater and he stayed composed and made big plays when he had to. We have a lot of weapons on this offense that cant go to waste due to a sideline to sideline offense. Clemens brings explosiveness to this offense and sometimes I feel that us as fans forget what the ultimate goal is and thats to win a championship, why wait till its to late and this season goes to waste. Im not proclaiming Clemens the next Joe Montana or that he will win us a superbowl this season, but i just feel he is the right option right now!

I have to agree. Either Clemens is good, or we missed another opportunity by passing on Quinn. Either way, we should know what we have (or don't have) we know what we do have with Chad already, a qb that may bring us a #3 or a #4 in a trade.

Why not see what he really can do or if he is simply a backup.

Agreed, we need to know whether Clemens is the future starter OR we need to draft a future starter. Start Clemens now and figure out our path. If he is not that good, at least come draft time we have a good read on him. We probably are not a playoff team now...so at the very least we should use this season to evaluate several need positions...

what do we need to do?

1) Evaluate Clemens (is he the future or do we need to draft another QB?)

2) Draft OL

3) Draft DL
