University of Memphis Football Player Shot and Killed by Unknown Assailants

By ANNA WEGGEL

In what the police described as a targeted attack, a University of Memphis student and football player, Taylor Bradford, was shot and killed on the campus Sunday night by unknown assailants. As of Monday evening, no suspects had been identified.

Mr. Bradford, 21, was a junior from Nashville who had transferred to Memphis this fall after two years at Samford University, in Birmingham, Ala.

The incident, which occurred at 9:45 p.m., happened near a residence hall in the northeastern corner of the campus, according to a statement issued on the university's Web site Monday morning. Mr. Bradford apparently tried to drive away after being shot but crashed his car into a tree. Campus police officers found him in the car, still alive. He died later at a hospital.
