Also today, the Jets released offensive linemen Mike Elgin from their practice squad and signed linebacker Jerry Mackey, who they had traded to the Buccaneers for an undisclosed draft choice on Aug. 21. The Jets had originally signed Mackey on Aug. 4 after Tampa Bay cut him.

Mackey is the great nephew of Colts' Hall of Famer John Mackey.

In one other piece of housekeeping, Mangini announced that the Jets released OL Mike Elgin from their practice squad and signed LB Jerry Mackey to the P-squad. If Mackey's name sounds familiar, that's because Mackey is the former Freeport (N.Y.) High School and Syracuse standout who was signed as an undrafted free agent Aug. 4, then traded to Tampa Bay two weeks later for an undisclosed conditional draft pick, then cut by the Buccaneers on Sept. 1, so the pick reverted to the Bucs.

Mackey was teammates with D'Brickashaw Ferguson at Freeport High and his great-uncle is Pro Football Hall of Fame TE John Mackey.

Don't complain just because these guys suck and probably will never see the field. At least these moves show they are still paying attention to everybody out there. Clowney was picked a full two rounds before Stuckey and people on this site were thinking that Stuckey was going to be a serious contributor. Most fans don't even know about deals like this, but thanks to 128's love of obscure items we are kept abreast.

In some ways we're lucky it's not some NT project because if they signed anybody over 350lbs half the board would annoint him/her starter, sight unseen.

And why not? What's the difference if one gets blown 6 yards off the line or 10?
