As a diehard New York Yankees fan, I remember a few years ago when I saw the 2004 American League Championship Series. That Boston Red Sox team the Yankees faced was a loose, scrappy bunch that played together as a team and had fun on the diamond. On the Yankees side, you saw a collection of multi-millionaires who kept to themselves, expressed little or no personality in interviews and still this team robotically wound up in the playoffs year after year.

The 2007 Yankees playoff series against the Indians was as flat a performance you

Patrick, for a guy that supposedly is big on baseball history, you should really understand what "baseball Pennant" means.

A-Rod has never been part of a team that has won a baseball's pennant. We don't know what you are trying to say there. Pennants are reserved for league champions.

At least someone was nice enough to change Joe Torre from being a "head coach" to Manager" for you.

I normally would not trifle with arguing with factual errors in an article thatsomeone took the time to write for this site.

But in your case, based on your actions in this forum, I will make the exception. Nice effort. Big Articles> big writers.

Yes, get rid of ARod, that is how to rebuild the Yankees. What a choker. It's October. He hit a home run in the wrong game. What a choke artist. He's not clutch like Double Play Derek Jeter. Get him the **** outta town. Choker.

alex's home run came when we were down 6-1

then in the 9th inning he flies out and swings at some HORRIBLE pitces. we all saw it.

did you see me give Jeter or Posada a free pass? 5-32 combined, thats horrible.

i'm just happy people are reading my work.

What about the bullpen? Torre had the luxury of a fantastic pen during his stretch from 96-01. They didnt do nearly as well after that. He also misses the steady pitching and bench coaches he had during their great run.

A-Rod was one of many who didnt produce in the playoffs, but they wouldnt have even sniffed the post-season without him. Jeter was just as bad, if not worse, but he gets a lifetime pass from yankee fans, and perhaps deservedly so. But they are a good nucleus, and i think they should keep A-Rod, especially if they dump Torre.

Get rid of guys who dont want to be here? In the age of free agency many players simply follow the money trail, and that has led more than a few of them to pinstripes.

Without the steady management they had with Zimmer, Stot, and soon Torre, i think this team may flounder for a season or two.

Well, haven't been around to post much since I've been vacationing in Baltimore, NY, and now Orlando but obviously big changes are needed. If A-Rod wants 300 mil he can eff off. Lots of old guys are going to want TONS of new money. Should be an interesting off-season but watching this team get dominated by a second tier pitcher in Byrd when they HAD TO WIN was just a friggin joke.

i completely forgot Mariano is a free agent, that is something i should've addressed. didn't think about it until i came across his comments on espn.com earlier today.

the bullpen isn't the problem, i think it's the use of it. kyle farnsworth should never have been left on the roster.

What are your thoughts about Rivera?

I can see him ending up with the cubs, and it would be a good fit for him and them.

I'd hate to see Rivera leave the Yankees. I think he would rather walk away than play for another team.

The days of guys playing their entire career with one team are few and far between these days and I have the utmost respect for Rivera.

If Torre gets a new contract, Mariano will be back.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Rivera, Torre and other Yankee castoffs went across town to the Mess.

I mentioned this in another thread. If they want to be back, all they need is for that to be a rumor. Even Boston. Can you imagine Theo wining and dining Mo? Oh man. The horror of it all.

There is one over-riding point that needs to be made. The Yankees have not been to the WS since 2003. In the 4 seasons since that time, the Yankees have trotted out starting pitchers that just do not cut it. Vasquez, Brown, a broken down Randy Johnson, et al. In the same time, we have faced top flight starters from other teams. Not every game, but more than enough times.

Sure, the Yankees threw out some quality starting pitching. Petitte was great, and Wand won the ope4ner last season. But Moose has mostly been ineffective the past few years, Roger was hurt, Wang was ineffective, last year Wright was our do-or-dies game starter. Enough said.

Fix the rotation! Get me a true ace, a guy who misses bats.

I believe that this will happen in 2008. I believe that Joba will be that guy. A guy who can match a CC, or a Beckett. A guy who will get enough Ks that reduce the amount of balls hit in play. And add to this a Hughes, Kennedy, along with a Wand and hopefully a Petitte, and things will change.

BTW - it was a decent write-up. Nice read there Patrick.

If he opts out the yankees aren't gonna chase him.

They really can't if he opts out. That is what makes it so interesting. The Yankees have a 20 million dollar advantage if they just renegotiate becuase of the money Texas is paying.

So if he opts out someone has to beat the Yankees by 20 million. Hey it can happen but if someone truly wants to pay him 400 million I say let them. That's just insane.

'08 rotation:

Wang

Pettitte

Hughes

Kennedy

???

Chamberlin maybe? Or, does he stay in the pen?

Definitly in the rotation but if he's not dominant , you already know he can close should Mo do the right thing and walk.

Yanks staff should be good to great for years to come barring injuries. I just don't see Hughes and Joba as guys the league will figure out---their stuff is that good....we'll see... and Wang will be fine as well.

Also after ARod is it fair to say Robbie is the best hitter on the Yanks?
