#27TheDominator
This comes up every couple of months. I used the reviews at: http://www.steves-digicams.com/ People will tell you not to get too caught up in the megapixels. You certainly can, but I found the extra megapix are pretty helpful if you want to blow stuff up and/or crop stuff. No reason to blow your budget. Make sure that you pick one that is convenient. I have a Canon A-6something. It's 7.1 mpx and has every feature I want, but it's a little big, kind of pain in the ass to keep my pocket so sometimes I leave it home. Alk
Kodak Easyshare. You can buy them with a photo printer very reasonably.
Bob
Don't worry about megapixels. You don't need anything over 5 unless you're printing wall-sized posters. Spend your money on optical zoom (not digital zoom) instead. Your camera will be more versatile and you'll get better shots.
Sperm Edwards
Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for the best camera available (within reason of course) it's different for the best camera available that fits in your pocket. Do not want a bulky one but also not too small that makes it tough to take pictures
Verde
Do NOT buy a Canon. The camera will surely succumb to the dreaded E18 error message.
ECURB
Give us a real price range... reasonable is different for everyone... and if you asked in the tech forum... I would just tell you to buy a ps3... lol
Bob
Do NOT buy a Canon. The camera will surely succumb to the dreaded E18 error message. Truth. That happened to my daughter's camera. My camera is an old Fujifilm Finepix that has served me very well for about five years. My camera at work is a Sony Cyber-shot that also works very well. Sperm Edwards
I posted in a similar thread what I have. It's a Casio Exilim z850. They don't make it anymore & the new version is the z1080. The pictures are awesome. It's VERY easy to use. Takes really good mpeg's even in dark settings b/c it has a feature where your flash is constantly on like a spotlight. It's small enough to fit in the tiniest purse for your wife or even your own back pocket. Has a large screen (don't make light of it; you'll like having a big viewer screen). And the other major plus - one of the things I like best about it - is that the battery stays charged for an eternity. I couldn't find my charger before a vacation & hadn't used (or charged) the camera for 2 months & it still held its charge for a week-long vacation with hundreds of pictures. I think you get about 500 pictures from a single charge; basically you don't need a 2nd battery. If you work with any type of image software (photoshop, etc), then you can trade off increased zoom with increased megapixels. If not, then you're better off with more zoom (OPTICAL zoom; digital zoom is 100% worthless) & don't worry about the megapixels (anything over 5 is more than enough unless you're making posters). But if you use photoshop then as Dominator said, you can just crop the picture where you want it & the effect is the same as a stronger zoom. If you don't use any imaging software & have a phobia with using even the simplest ones, they make a "high zoom" EX-V8 that has a 7x optical zoom. Really there are a LOT of good cameras out there. So I'm not advocating only this brand (though I admit when I first heard about it the only thing I thought of was cheap digital watches). Other things to look for would be what kind of card it takes. If you get a second one for yourself you'll want them to both use the same memory card. SD cards are more common, but a couple of brands (Fuji & I think Olympus) use an XD card. Because it's more common, it's easier to find a quick USB cord to hook it right up to your computer with (without having to connect the whole docking station). This website is great: www.dpreview.com. If you see some negative reviews about certain aspects of a camera you're looking at hard, post the negative review here & someone will tell you if it's a big deal or if it's just the ramblings of someone who will always find fault with something. Good luck.
