Alk
That is the question. My wife wants me to run it with her tomorrow morning but I don't know if I can. I have been running for a couple months now and have worked my way up to 2 miles which I am able to do pretty easily. I really want to do it but I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to make it. What do you think, is another 1.1 mile going to be that big of a deal? Probably not the best time to answer this question since everyone that is on here right now is probably drunk. I wouldn't think it would be too much extra. Admittedly I'm not a runner, though, so what would I know. The thing is, now that you've mentioned it, you have to now go ahead and go for it. After all, you don't want to be lumped in with Max in the "JN I Said I Could Handle a Run but I Keep Putting It Off" category. *Disclaimer - if you do decide to run, and have a heart attack as a result of the extra distance, I take no responsibility*

I'm still sober and I used to run long distance races (marathons and 50 milers) . Yes JUST DO IT ALK. If you can run 2 you can do a 5K BUT you have to pace yourself. If you get caught up in everybody flying off the line at the start, you're doomed. PACE YOURSELF and you'll be fine. Good luck.
serphnx
Heck no it's not worth it. I can't run long distances and I don't even try, I can just drive a car if I need to go somewhere far. In sports short explosive bursts are what lead to excellence, so I don't understand the point of a long paced run.

Just to do it with his wife should be enough motive.
Jetman_67
After about 7-10 minutes your leg muscles are used to the movement and most likely wont fatigue. By doing the run you have nothing to lose. If you find yourself tiring, then you stop. Your not hurting anyone by trying.

faba
Pace yourself and go for it-you can always walk the last part of the distance to finish.
TaborJet
You can do it Alk! At least someone from this site will come through on their commitment to running.

Alk if you can run two you can run three. You can slow the pace down and WORST case is walk for a minute after 2.5 or so. You will be surprised at a lot of the times people come in at (they are not all fast). Hope you did it. Good luck.

ECURB
I used to run 5k's with no training at all... just go for it... its mostly a mind thing... once you hit 1.5-2 miles your legs go numb anyways!

I have ran cross country for the past few years and I can tell you that if you can do 2 miles, you can do another 1.1 miles. You can do it, no doubt. Maxman
The voice of experience? Well I never made it to 10. But I have done a 5k this year. So that was partly based on what I found from experience. I thought to do a 5k that everyone came in around 24 minutes. When in reality a lot of people are finishing in over 35 minutes. My personal best was 21: xx minutes... I cant do it under 30 now...
Alk
Well thanks for the false confidence. I wasn't able to run it though. We weren't able to find anyone to watch the kids at 7:30 this morning so I had to watch them.

Alk
:cough:loser:cough: She asked me last night if I would run it and I told her I wan't sure but I didn't think I would. I thought about it last night and decided I would do it. Then I woke up at 7:15 and she was already long gone. There was no way I was going to round up someone in fifteen minutes especially considering I hadn't even signed up yet. I'm sure there will be another one coming up and I'll try to get into that one.
