If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Seeing Green DNA's thread about his trip I was wondering where everyone here would like to live.

Here is my Top 10 (I am definitely a city boy, so that really affects it).

1. New York City (no need to explain)

2. Toronto (where most of my family lives and where I was born).

3. Seattle (where I have grown up, one of the most beautiful big cities in the world in my opinion).

4. London (keeping with the big city theme, and where my father's parents reside).

Big drop off from the first 4 to the next 4

5. Douglas, Isle of Man (where my father's family is originally from)

6. Lake Placid, NY (I have a place in between Keene and Keene Valley, and am a hockey junkie).

7. Kamloops, BC (I have a place at Sun Peaks Ski Resort along with the rest of my family and I would love to spend a year as a ski instructor there)

8. Syracuse, NY (If I don't go to college in a big city, Syracuse is where I would love to go).

I'd have to take my own island somewhere.

But among cities, if that were my only choice? In the US, definitely San Diego. 300+ days of sunshine, warm weather year round, beautiful pollution free beaches and friendly people. Only reason I'm not there anymore is NY gives you more opportunities in terms of career advancement and such.

Small, remote house on a cliff in Maine. Nothing but pines in the front with a drop down a bluff to the roiling sea out back.

Second choice is a historic brownstone in the greatest city on the face of the earth: New York City. I never get sick of museums, and I have a particular affection for the New York Public Library (other than the obvious). They have some of the most spectacular photos of Native American Indians I have ever seen lining those venerated hallways. And, I broke my adoption case there.

Third choice would be to be able to have both so when I get sick of people I can go to Maine, and when I get bored I can go to New York. :P

Ideally, somewhere with warm days, cool evenings, not too rural, but not near a big city. Somewhere near the mountains, but also not too far from the beach. A place where life is simple, people are good and stress is low. A place with history, art, bit of nightlife... interesting and fun stuff.

Not sure that place exists... so...

Found Colorado to great... particularly Estes Park and Boulder area, always was interested in Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC is a new fav. Most likely I'll live my life in the northeast. Who knows.

let's take NYC out of the running then,

South Florida, like delray, friends are making a killing there, meeting great women, and loving life. Plus, there is a girl there that I wouldn't mind living near, LOL

Munich, one of the most frequent cities I have visited, I love it there.

Milan, not the best Italian city for sure, but practical for career and business reasons and being in northern Italy is located well for travelling around Europe.

I have to say that I love New York and we're going back when our time is up. Milan, Joe? I don't see it. I live rent free in the Brera and I wouldn't want to stay here forever. Sure it's convenient for travel which along with the cleanliness and safety are why I prefer it to Rome, but people only live up here because that's where there is work. My wife's family has a house near Palermo and that is where you want to be, if you didn't need to work. Sit up on the deck and you can see the mountains on one side, the sea on the other. Less than a half hour to the beach at Mondello and food so good you could barely imagine.

You are 100% correct, like you said, there is work there, while it is still a short car, train, or plane trip to most of the rest of europe. Besides, for other things i do it kinda makes sense as well. Like I said, not the greatest city in europe and not even the greatest in Italy, but very practical if you want to be mobile in Europe.

Dude, if you want to make porn there are plenty of hot chicks down south. Maybe there are more starving Czech models up here, but that's about it. I'll be a little bit happier about the mobility tonight if VW of America sent me the right ****ing part. Car has been sitting in the box since before Christmas.
