her bosses met with her today & want to move her into human recources and maybe in the marketing division. she was kinda excited & had to talk fast & rush off the phone. They see good things for her in the company bla bla bla (digicel... caribbean phone company).

She has to meet when a lady fly's in next week & needs to let them know where she sees herself in 5 years.

She wants to take me to lunch tomorrow & pick my brain. PLEASE HELP ME SOUND SMART & OFFER GOOD ADVICE HERE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks a bunch in advance

The general rule of thumb for the 5 year question is giving an answer that implies that you will still be in the job that you are appling for (as long as it's not entry level). it gives the interviewer the comforting feeling that they will not have to start looking to replace you any time soon.

Your daughters situation seems a little trickier as it doesn't seem 100% where they are going to place her so that answer wouldn't really work. In this case I would give a prety general statment stressing things like still being with the company where she could make the biggest difference. If they do come at her with a certain job then you could revert back to the first reply.

Every situation is different though and of course just being truthful is always good.

I see myself working in xyz department and doing the best job that I can to make a difference. Each and every day my focus will be on improving our operations. I have always felt that you guys do a great job. But I know with my input we can do better. Let's face it, they promoted you so they aren't always right. But together we can overcome your incompetence. Granted that might be a bit much to tackle in just 5 years but I am willing to give it a try if you are.

Then she should put her hands together and say, "teamwork on 3".
