gangreenman
According to various reports, the Dallas Cowboys are looking to resign Marion Barber to a long-term deal, and will be meeting with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, in Indianapolis during the Combine. This is contrary to heavy speculation that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has his eyes set on Arkansas product Darren Mcfadden. If Barber does get resigned, the Cowboys will most likely not bother trading up. Source: Yahoo News Drew Rosenhaus, agent for Marion Barber, said he plans to meet with the Dallas Cowboys this week at the NFL scouting combine. The Cowboys have said they would like to sign the standout running back to a long-term deal the Dallas Morning News reported. Dallas is expected to give Barber, a restricted free agent, a $2.562 million tender, which would require another team to fork over first- and third-round picks to get him Looks like we'll probably stay at 6. IMO he's a top 3-5 RB in his league.
Thai Jet
Dallas would be crazy not to re-sign Barber. IMO he's a top 3-5 RB in his league. My thoughts exactly. Barber's a PROVEN NFL commodity. Jerry Jones love affair with McFadden just bacause he's a Razorback bordered on the insane considering what they would have to give up to move up in the draft. Resign Barber then use the draft to fill other needs.

He had a great game, but let's see him do it for 16. If he runs like he does 15-18 carries a game for 25-28, then sure, he's probably in the top 3 backs. However, it's amazing what those extra 10 carries do to a guy.

So this news does not necessarily impact whether or not the Cowboys go after McFadden. Also, on a team like the Cowboys, ie, one that has super bowl aspirations, a guy like McFadden would be a supplementary player - split carries with Barber and otheriwse lineup in the slot, etc, to get more touches. To me this says the Cowboys wont make a deal with Miami (or anyone else) before the draft but lets see how long Jerry can sit on his hands if McFadden starts to slip in the draft to the point where a reasonable deal can be struck. Dunno. Just sayin.
