Colts Sign TE Dallas Clark To 6-Year Deal

Peyton Manning will be throwing to Dallas Clark for years to come. The Indianapolis Star reported on Wednesday that the Colts signed their star tight end to a six-year contract, keeping him in Indianapolis until 2013. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The move comes just one day after the Colts opted to place the franchise tag on Clark. The tag would have paid him $4.5 million for the 2008-09 season. Instead, the versatile tight end who often lines up in the slot, will likely retire as a Colt. Clark, 27, took advantage of the fact that wide receiver Marvin Harrison was banged up all season, posting career numbers. The 6-3, 252-pounder registered career highs in catches(58), yards (616) and touchdowns (11). Overall, Clark has 179 catches for 2,234 yards and 25 touchdowns in 67 games with Indianapolis. The Star also reported that the Colts signed offensive guard Ryan Lilja to a five-year, $20 million contract with a $5.5 million signing bonus.

Lilja clearly opted for less money to stay in Indianapolis because the Colts should be competiting for the Super Bowl every year as long as Peyton Manning dons an Indianapolis uniform. Blocking for Joseph Addai when they switch to the running game isn't a bad option either.

As for Clark, this isn't surprising. The franchise tag was placed on him just in case they couldn't get a deal done by March. Clark will continue to raise his game as Harrison could be retiring ratherly shortly. Reggie Wayne won't be able to do it by himself.
