Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth: The Golde Years

Julie Christie for Away From Her

Marion Cotillard for La Vie En Rose

Lauran Linney for The Savages

Ellen Page for Juno

Call it a gut feeling but I think Cotillard wins it. Shes a newcomer that has done a hell of a job portraying Edith Piaf.

Page would be a runner up, but I just dont see her role in Juno as one that the Academy would fully recognize.

crap, no noms for charlie wilsons war.........I got no input here either

It is an odd year for the Oscars, nearly every nominee was in an indy or foreign film which nobdy saw.

Most of them are good and worth seeing, check them out when they come out on DVD.

I think the Oscars always kisses the ass of foreign actors so Cotillard is a possibility,,,BUT,,Linney was the best. How many actors can actually steal a movie from Phillip Seymour Hoffman?? well she did...

also, a VERY close second is Page for Juno,,she was brilliant....I actually think sh emay pull the surpise,,great job, foreign and a long time pro...deadly oscar combo

third IMHO is Christie,,she did a great job as a Alzheimers patient...

sorry I shoulda used a smiley indicating it was a joke. in the future pay me no mind. Iactually killed more threads than ecurb started last year;)

I knew it was a joke, that was just my bad attempt at being funny. (Should probably start using those smileys myself)

The Savages was one of the few Oscar movies I missed this year, so I cant really give my opinion on Linney save for her reputation as being one of the bes actresses out there.

Oscars really doesnt kiss ass of Foreign actors too often with wins in my opinion, asside form Robert Begnini(?) back in the late nineties, I cant think of too many other foreign language actors to have won an Oscar recently. Maybe I'm wrong.

As for Page, I think she was actually the best performance, but it wasnt the kind of role that screams Oscar to me. Kind of like Johnny Depp when he was nominated for Pirates back in '03, best all around performance that year, but lost out to Sean Penn.

I guess I really didnt count most of them since they speak English, or were in American films, but that was my mistake.

(cant believe I forgot Beni though, hes one of my favorite actors)

I'd have to say that I thought that most of them were deserving when they won though, with exceptions, thats just my opinion though.

I'll definately have to rent the Savages as soon as it comes out, being in the middle of nowhere we are lucky to get any movies that are worth seeing without travelling for a half hour.

haha

oh young skywalker,,have you learned your oscar lesson? :D

All four acting prizes went to Europeans: Frenchwoman Marion Cotillard, the best-actress winner for "La Vie En Rose"; Spaniard Javier Bardem, who took supporting actor for "No Country"; and Brits Daniel Day-Lewis and Tilda Swinton, he claiming his second best-actor honor for "There Will Be Blood," she winning supporting actress for "Michael Clayton."

Throw in Ireland for Best song..

A humbling experience, I guess I overestimate the Oscar voters and their opinions, but I will learn the error of my ways someday.:bag:

Really Tilda Swinton was the only one that suprised me, of all the nominees in all the acting categories she was one of the few I thought didnt have a chance. Not that she was bad, just other nominees were a lot stronger.
