C-Mart28
I figured that Screenplays woldnt be all that popular, so Im changing it to the Best Picture Category. (By popular demand)
SouthernJet
I like Juno,,but fear the old farts who vote in Oscars will go with Atonement , a very good flick, or No Country, also a good flick...
C-Mart28
I've got my heart set on No Country, its one of the best films ive seen in a long time. I also liked Michael Clayton and Juno, not so much There Will Be Blood and I'll see Atonement this weekend Juno has no shot. I'm thinking it get the Little Miss Sunshine treatment of last year getting a screenplay Oscar, but thatll be it. IMO
jetophile
I'm sure 'Juno' is a good movie, but I wouldn't go out of my way to plunk down money to see it. I'll wait for cable. Teen pregnancy movies, better than a sleeping pill. But wait! It's a feel good story! And bittersweet! And poignant! And funny! Now if a zombie teen pregnancy movie comes out, call me! jetophile
Juno was great.I'm sure it's worth seeing and I'm always game for a stellar acting turn. I'll just be sure to watch it when it's between either that or curling. Being an adoptee myself, you'd think I'd find these sorts of movies more interesting. Instead, I tend to find them way off the mark, tidy and cloying. I will check it out one of these days, though.

I'm also very honest. Where is it written that everyone's subjective taste should be the same? Homogeneous and boring, that's what. Everyone has preset prejudices in art, and that's as it should be. There's some subjects I simply don't fall over myself to see over others if given a choice is all I'm saying. It doesn't mean WON'T see it, nor did I say that. THAT would be close-minded. There isn't anyone on earth that ISN'T like that. How many young men, for example, if standing at the ticket window, would pick 'Sense and Sensibility' over let's say, '300'? It doesn't mean they won't see the first one at some point, but they're going to see what initially interests them more. Sitting at a top shelf restaurant, it's all good, but I'm going to pick what interests me the most the first go 'round. It's human nature. Yes, I know 'Juno' is about some witty teen pregger. Not at the top of my list. However, I'm sure I'll enjoy it whenever I happen to see it - which is the third time now that I've said that.

gg
i loved juno.. i hope it wins it most likely wont win it was funny funny films rarely win.. last true comedy was annie hall in 77, there was driving miss daisy in 89. and shakespeare in love in 98 which had its moments.. but not comedies persay. funny is not revered in society.. movies must have a "message" when in reality, what we need is a little more laughter in our day to day life.. the same can be said for teaching books in schools.. why cant they teach funny books .. why does it always have to be literatures with a message and not something that will make our kids more joyful. would it hurt if we were all a little more joyful? ok.. i am stepping off my soapbox... I always felt that 'comedies' should have their own category. I can't remember now what it was up against (and good luck with me ever looking anything up), but I was so mad when 'Tootsie' won up against a drama. It's the day I swore off the Oscars. I would have sworn off them when Dorothy Dandridge got screwed, but I wasn't born yet.

HAH, Gandhi, right. I couldn't remember offhand what it was, but I DO remember saying, "This is total cr*p, and you've got to be kidding me here that 'Tootsie' is in the same room." yankeesjetsfan
I'm hearing No Country for Old Men is probably going to walk away with best picture. I have been horrible in keeping up with the Oscar nominated pics as I usually see them when the nominations are released. Nothing really intrested me this year though. C-Mart28
This actually wound up being a very strong Oscar class IMO, there are up and comers, classy vets, and some all around great movies. 4 of the 5 Best Picture noms I can see winning it, 3 of those actually have a legitimate shotat doing so. That said, No Country for Old Men was one of the Best movies I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot of movies), and it gets better every time I have seen it...which is twice as of now, it deserves every award it has been nominated for. I couldn't have been more wrong, as it was a great, great movie IMO. Deserves to win, but as a couple of you have already said--it wont. Im guessing it'll go to No Country.
