Wait I thought NJ already had that ban. And that this new rule just let cops pull you over for it. They used to have to pull you over for another infraction and cite you for that as well. Like the seatbelt thing.

Of course my mind is mush and I could be making this all up.

If it keeps some douchbag from sideswiping me, cheers.

Just because you had a bad encounter with someone using the phone while driving doesn't mean that everyone using the phone while driving is an idiot. Some people, well I hope most, can do more than one thing at a time. Except women. The ban should be for women in SUV's. ;)

Its not just one situation...almost everyday I see close calls because some idiot feels its more important to yap or text on their phone then pay attention on whats going on around them. I saw a guy a couple of days ago drive through a one-way exit with tire spikes the wrong way....and the reason why....drum roooolllll......talking on his phone. I did my best not to laugh in front of him.

Studies have shown that driving with a phone to your ear is equal to having 4 drinks. most people slow down, drift into the other lane, and basically shorten their attention to what they should be focused on-DRIVING.

No, everyone who drives and talks on the phone is a stupid mother****er. sorry. as for suv's they should be banned all together unless you will be driving offroad.

i hear ya 124, but EVERY study shows that driving with cell phone is equivalent to borderline low level DUI,,its just the way it is,,no matter how hard yoiu think you are paying attention,,

i think i am doin great but i sometimes realize i slowed a tad or wasnt exactly 100% crisp on what was going around...

What did everyone do before the advent of the cell phone? Did they sit at home and talk on the phone constantly? Um, no; and the people that did were called, you know, what they were. Flaky weirdos with too much time on their hands. I only got a cell phone because I was strong-armed into it for emergency purposes. Not a bad thing as to that, but please, what's the attraction beyond that except to annoy everyone within hearing range? I wanted to kick this guy onto the tracks the last time I trained it to NYC. All he did was wheel and deal and talk chit for two hours at the expense of everyone else - even on the subway platform when I thought I lost him.

Then again, what did everyone do before the advent of the internet? I think we were all more grounded somehow. Me included.

Same here. I was finally given a mobile phone for my birthday, in late 2006. I managed fine without it, I still do - if I forget it, it's not a disaster. And as bad as people who shout using theirs are the chavvy scum who persist in playing what seems to be chipmunks singing over "music" (that appears to be composed of car alarms and drum beats) at full blast on the bus or in public.
