Hardy's 40..not too bad

"Indiana WR James Hardy ran a 4.47 forty at the NFL Combine Sunday.

A terrific time for the 6'6/219-pounder. Hardy, who led the Big Ten in touchdown receptions last year, is likely headed for the first round."

Well, that answers the questions about his straight lined speed. This is a very impressive time for a man of his size; he combines everything you look for including production, if he packs on a few pounds in the offseason he'll be a scarey receiver.

That is very very impressive. His stock just took a major boost.

We've had deep threats. Coles was a deep threat once. Santana Moss. Even JMac at one time. We had a QB who couldn't throw that far unless there's 10 yards of separation. No one is that fast, unless the DB falls down.

To be fair we didn't see much more deep throws from Clemens than we did from Chad this year.

I'm talking about before this year as well. Chad had time to throw the ball deep before '07. He just didn't. Moss, for all his faults, used to run off the field after our usual 3rd-and-7 dumpoff for 5 yards fuming b/c he was open.

I don't want to go there any further in this thread. Back to the 6'7"/220-lb dude who runs a sub-4.5.

I'd put that on the shoulders of brian shottenheimer as opposed to clemens, but either way we still didn't see too many deep balls. I'm fairly certain that hardy is going to be the top ranked big man now and wont be there for our top 2nd anyway. Another guy who is kind of a generic version of Hardy is Marcus Monk, anyone know his 40 time this year?? He's 6'6 also and I saw he had a 34+ inch vert.

Limas Sweed runs a 4.46, that another impressive time.

Dexter Jackson though with a 4.27, I wouldn't mind taking a shot on him late on. That's beyond impressive.

I want to see the other drills. Let's see them cut fast. Creates more separation than 0.2 seconds difference after running a full 40 yards.

Marcus Monk is running now.

Just ran a 4.61

I agree with taht point about Schotty, he was awful this year with both QB's.

My preferred option is now trading down into the 20s and taking Hardy. He is a physical beast, and unlike guys like Matt Jones, he has the college production to back it up.

Personally i don't think we should take a WR this high, that just due to 1) How big a risk they can be and 2) We have more pressing needs.

If we trade down I think we take an OLB or try and get that LG Albert.

If Coles gets traded, WR will be perhaps the BIGGEST need on the team.

Cotchery, Stuckey, and Brad Smith could possibly be the worst receiving corps in the history of the NFL.

It will not be the biggest need on the team as long as D-Rob is still at NT, Clarke is still at LG and we still have no pass rush.

I think we should get a WR in FA, maybe Hackett or Johnson. I think Cotchery could make a decent #1, not great, but not a real weakness.

It depends on what our other moves are but for now I'd like for us to look elsewhere. WR's are very rarely sure things in the draft no matter how physically impressive, it also takes a long time for them to develop.

Look at the likes of Robert Meachem and Dewayne Jarrett this year.
