faba
Source: Red Sox, Colon agree to minor league deal ESPN.com news services Updated: February 24, 2008, 6:19 PM ET Comment Email Print The Boston Red Sox have reached preliminary agreement on a minor league contract with right-hander Bartolo Colon, a source told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick. Colon If he makes the Opening Day roster, Colon would provide rotation insurance for Boston, which will be without Curt Schilling, who is working his way back from a shoulder injury. The White Sox, Cardinals and Astros also had been rumored as possible suitors for Colon this offseason. Colon suffered through an injury-marred 2007 for the Los Angeles Angels, posting a 6-8 record and a 6.34 ERA -- the worst of his career. In his 11-year career, Colon is 146-95 with a 4.10 ERA. He is a two-time 20-game winner, and he won the Cy Young Award in 2005 with the Angels.

Blackout
A-Rod will never get to face him, he won't make the team. do you really believe at one point they won't need him for some innings? Especially when Lester and Bucholz struggle Alex hits .439 off him with 8 homers in 51 at bats

Bob
HE HAD A LUNCH DATE WITH JOBA. Colon would have to live in Ethiopia for a year to get down to Joba weight. Or, a month to get down to Thor weight. I'm just sayin.'

faba
Who knows if Colon has the motivation though to get in shape for a bigger payday? Worth a shot on a minor league contract for insurance.

GimmeShelter
Nice low risk signing. Sox will likely look to limit Lester and Buccholz innings as mentioned. Freddy Garcia making the rounds as well and is interested on being a Yank after the Sox and Mets took a look.

Freddy Garcia making the rounds as well and is interested on being a Yank after the Sox and Mets took a look. Buccholz may end up in AAA to start to save an arby eligible year but it might be Snyder or Tavarez and not Colon taking the 5th spot in the rotation. I don't think you hold back on Lester this season.

Lil Bit Special
well "el guapo" must have played for boston because no one i kno has ever heard of him... Pitched in the majors from 1990-2002. Spent 7 years with the Red Sox. dont know how you didnt see him pitch or know who he is. He was a pretty good reliever for the Sawx, your hated rival. But, usually Yankee fans are so blind to anyone else who plays in the majors.
