BENGALS BAG ROGERS by Michael David Smith

Michael Smith of ESPN.com is reporting that the Detroit Lions have traded defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to the Cincinnati Bengals.

No word is out yet on what the Lions got for Rogers, who had been on the trade block for several weeks and had been rumored to be heading to the Jaguars, Jets and Broncos, among other teams.

For the Bengals, acquiring Rogers gives them just the kind of big defensive tackle head coach Marvin Lewis has always employed in his defense. The 340-pound Rogers is in the mold of Sam Adams and Tony Siragusa, the huge defensive tackles who played for the Super Bowl-winning Ravens team on which Lewis served as defensive coordinator.

This is great news Rogers was a slacker and not a "Mangini" type guy anyway.

Uhh . . . that slacker had 7 sacks and an INT last season. I still like Jenkins, but the Bengals got a guy the same age, the same experience, coming off a better year for basically the same thing.

Rogers shows up to camp overweight and out of shape.Mangini doesnt do well with guys like him.He plays the Parcells ego thing and eventually lets them go for nothing. We do not need the services of Rogers who never plays 100%.

If Jenkins got a 3 and a 5, Rogers is rumored to have gotten a 3rd rounder

What value would you put on DRob?

Drob is younger so that might brign his value up and now that denver didnt get there dt they wanted they might just get antsy and just give up alot for drob(im hoping)

Look, I'm not saying Rogers would be a good fit for the Jets. And, I agree with Smizzy that the Bengals may not be the right place for a guy with some discipline issues. But if the guy has a better year than the guy we picked up and the Bengals got him for similar value, you have to think either the Bengals got a bargain or the Jets got less than they could have.

As for not playing 100% if the guy can rack up 40 or so tackles, 7 sacks, and an int touchdown God help his opponents if he does play 100%

ROGERS TRADE OFF

The trade between the Lions and the Bengals for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers is apparently off.

According to Mike O'Hara of the Detroit News, the deal was not consummated and the Lions will be looking to send Rogers elsewhere. The two teams had agreed that Rogers would head to the Bengals for a third-round and a fifth-round pick.

In our view, that's not bad news for the Bengals. Maybe it means that someone within the organization raised an alarm about the 2007 allegations against Rogers regarding his conduct in a strip club. Though he wasn't charged, is that really the kind of guy that the team should be signing giving its recent history of struggles with off-field issues?

Talk about a match made in hell. A player who needs to discipline to be at his best playing for a team with no discipline whatsoever.

I thought Lewis and the Bengals were only taking the high character guys from here on out. What did that last? Six weeks? Perfect place for Rogers to land. What are the odds they make a move for Pac-Man next?

:)

Bengals just got badder, literally.

actually the trade didn't go through, and now profootballtalk.com is reporting that he may be traded to the browns instead?

SAME STATE, DIFFERENT TEAM?

On Friday, the Detroit Lions agreed to trade defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to the Cincinnati Bengals. The trade somehow fell through.

Now, Rogers could still be coming to Ohio. But as a member of the Browns.

Nicholas Cotsonika of the Detroit Free Press, citing an unnamed source, reports that the Lions are working on a deal with Cleveland.

Earlier on Friday, the Browns sent a second-round pick to the Packers for defensive tackle Corey Williams.

ROGERS TO BROWNS A DONE DEAL

According to Hondo Carpenter of SpartanNation.com, who as we understand it is very well plugged in as to the goings on in Motown, the Lions have finalized a trade of defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to the Browns.

In return, the Lions reportedly will get cornerback Leigh Bodden and a third-round draft choice.

Carpenter says that the league office rejected a trade that would have sent Rogers to the Bengals for a third-round and a fifth-round pick.

The Bengals are now being blocked from receiving risky players. That is HYSTERICAL!

 Marvin Lewis would be the yellow one.

How can the Browns afford to give up Bodden? Guess we know what direction they might be going in the 1st round.

I liked it better when he went to the Bengals. It could work all they need to do is hire Joe Arpaio (sheriff from Maricopa county) as the discipline guru and it really could work. :)

Seriously now. How can the NFL block the deal? I thought teams can be a dumb as they want. Anyone got any more info?

Apparently the 3rd round pick was not in their possession. They're expecting a 3rd round compensatory pick for Steinbach. But those haven't been awarded yet & teams cannot trade what they do not yet have.

Not to mention I thought I remembered hearing that teams cannot trade compensatory picks away.

That's one rumor I read anwyay.
