Beowulf

Okay, seriously. :wtf: How could they take such a great story and then pair it up with some crappy animation. I felt like I was watching a rated R version of Shrek. Could Grendel have been anymore lame? This needed to be live action. I was totally disappointed. They followed the story pretty well but damn.

To be honest, it looked exactly how you described it.. like crap. I want to see Semi Pro and I know you do too Alk.

Whatever, Will Ferrell is horrible. I'd never pay to see one of his movies.

I agree with both of you on Beowulf. Outside of Angelina Jolie, who's just plain hot no matter what configuration she is, the movie was crap. Luckily I watched it as a Netflick so the cost was minimum. Gotta disagree on Semi Pro. Looks to me like another lame, non funny Will Ferrell flick. Sorry Alk. :(

Haven't seen Beowulf yet. I was hoping it would be good, but all the reviews have been pretty much like Alk's. I'll watch it when it hits HBO.

As for Semi-Pro, how many times is that idiot Ferrell going to make the same bad movie by inserting a different sport?

Uh oh, based on what everyone in this thread is saying, I shouldn't have rented Beowulf. I am going to watch it later today.

I also watched 30 Days of Night, and I enjoyed that. Plenty of vampires, gore, and blood. A perfect combination. :)

30 days of night is a pretty crazy flick. I love how they keep you in suspense the whole movie, and how you never knew who was going to survive and who was going to eat it.

I didn't expect that ending :)

The book made me want to die.

And why is that? I liked the book, and also Grendel. But I've never seen Beowulf:The Movie. I noticed there is another low-budget movie called Beowulf or Grendel out there that seems to more accurately portray everything. There is a trailer of it on the Xbox 360 Marketplace, if you can wait 20 minutes to see what trailers you can watch. :)

As long as people like me keep paying the money to watch them I suppose.

I don't know why they didn't just go the live actor route on this one, period. What was really the point? And if not, then make it truly animated. Now I know '300' was somewhat of a computer whatever combo, but it had been completely computerized or whatever, I probably would have hated it. And '300' killed.

I saw this months ago, at first I thought someone must have bumped an old thread but I guess you guys mean the DVD or something.

You really need to see this thing on a big movie screen. The whole thing isn't designed to be taken seriously. I actually found it funny, and I considered it a very enjoyable movie. I mean it's just so obviously not supposed to be a serious film, it's almost like a satire or a parody.

I don't know why they would be trying to make fun of one of the great stories and be so subtle about it. It just seemed to me that they were trying to follow the story as closely at possible but throw some humor in to attract some of the younger generation. Whatever it was it sucked. WTF was up with the Austin Powers like scene in the mead hall where Beowulf was running around buck naked with his meat dagger being covered up with random objects? Was that really necessary?
