Yes, I lobbied hard for Melky ... and I still want him here for late inning defense ... he may not be Willie Mays in CF, but he's a better CF {at this point} than Bernie or WOEmack

Having said that, the pitching {down to two reliable starters} changes everything ... at least for the time being ... as of this moment the Yankees need to win on the strength of their OFFENSE

Therefore, you have to sacrifice defense for OFFENSE ... at least until we have, oh say, four reliable starters as opposed to two

NEW STARTING LINEUP

================

SS Derek Jeter - R

2B Robby Cano - L

3B Alex Rodriguez - R

LF Hideki Matsui - L

RF Gary Sheffield - R

1B Jason Giambi - L

DH Ruben Sierra - S

CF Bernie Williams - S

C Jorge Posada - S

TIME TO BUST OUT THE LUMBER!!

See last nights game?

Unless the Yankees make some deals for SP, that's the way they'll need to win this year ... BANGING

Might as well accept it, and set the lineup accordingly ... stack the lineup with our best nine hitters and see if we can bang our way to the post-season ... it's been done before, and that has to be our mindset

Mike and the Dog grilled Torre on the very subject yesterday. Dog sidd with Melky's lack of defense and being overmatched at the plate so far ,Joe is basically putting a inferior product on the field.

Mad Dog is such a piece of ****. I dunno how that loudmouth little beyatch has a gig on the radio

And I think he's a Barton to boot.

What I'm proposing here is not radical stuff .. it's as old as sports itself .. GOTTA PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTH

If your strength is pitching, you have to field a great defense to enhance your strength

If your strength is defense {especially INF defense}, you have to employ Groundball Pitchers

AND IF YOUR STRENGTH IS OFFENSE ... Gotta stack the lineup with your best hitters and try to bludgeon people

Simple as that

You can't try to win with what you DON'T HAVE ... you have to try with what you DO HAVE

Bottom Line: On MOST DAYS the opposition is going to score lots of runs verses the Yankees ... THAT'S A FACT ... so we have to SCORE MORE, or at least stack the lineup and try

Depending on the park Bernie might be possible in center. Although he is terrible out there.

And Bernie in the field and Ruben in the lineup at DH everyday is not a long term solution. Both will break down.

I have no problem riding it out while it lasts though.

ONE WILDCARD: Giambi. He is taking a lot of the heat off because he is hitting now. If Giambi hits I still say DH Bernie\Ruben play for defense in center (I don't care if it is Bubba Crosby).

But why, Max ... that's employing a strategy for a team that no longer exists

That was fine when we could win with pitching, or our pitching at least gave us a chance to win on most nights {theoretically} ... but that is no longer the case ... on most nights you have to know the opposition is going to light it up and we will need to score a ton of runs to win

That's the new reality ... might not be pretty or what we want, but what we want and what we have are two different things

Can't try to win with what we DON'T HAVE ... Gotta try with what we DO HAVE

And right now that's HITTING

We don't have the luxury {at the moment} of shunning offense for defense ... not even at one position ... we're gonna need every run we can get, and more

Tonights line-up has Sierra at DH....Melky in center. No Bernie.

Well then.

I guess you just never know what you have in a rook unless you give him opportunities to play in big spots.

But dont think Melky will get an AB in the 5th inning if theres runners in scoring position and the Yankees are close in the game.

Oh, you and me both fella. I gotta have Melky Cabrera in there as much as possible!

Now, anyone know where can I get a Melky Cabrera jersey?

Better yet...anyone know where I can find one of the many posts where JonEJinx ballwashes this clown?
