Let's Level Set - How competitive are we now?

So far, so good...but we were absolutely dreadful last year.

Based on fact (not rumored deals, etc.) and the confirmed players on the teams how competitive are we now versus the other AFCE teams?

Pats lost Asante.

Miami signed a ton of players...

Buffalo signed Stroud.

Let's level set...and what's our best next move?

I disagree.

I think given a good OL and a decent defense, Clemens can be a very good QB.

Sure he can be. He can also be just as bad as he was in 2007.

I don't even hate the guy, but to say he's anything other than a total question-mark is really little more than hope.

He's got a strong arm & is supposed to be a smart kid. So that's something at least. The rest we don't know until we see him on the field again.

Not signing Kendall is being validated more and more every day...now that we have a perennial Pro Bowler in that hole for the next 5+yrs.

Although we absolutely sucked last year (not giving a free pass) this FO has totally revamped this franchise in 2+ yrs and I'm excited about the new core we have.

Penny had his shot and is now out...no more pop gun...

The DRob, Ellis, Abe line had their shot and is now out.

Vilma had his shot and is now out.

BThomas' days are numbered...Ghouslton, Pace, etc...

The players are accountable to their performance.

You suck...you leave...maybe not as fast as we would have liked but it's only been 2 yrs and one we overperformed...

You perform...you play.

Cotch is a mainstay.

Revis, Harris, Mangold, Dbrick, Washington, Faneca, TJones, Clemens all added by this regime.

Plus, a draft to come.

In hindsight if we were to have a mulligan year better it came when the Cheats had a historic one...

Our future looks promising...now we have to play up to our potential...

Let Clemens mature behind a professional OLine and add some weapons...

Could be good times ahead.

I say we can be the second best team in our division. Miami is 2 wins, Buffalo is a split and Pats are a split, hopefully. So that is 4 wins right there. I can see us being able to get 4 more wins out of our schedule. Maybe even surprise a team or two and go 9-7. This is assuming Clemens is a decent QB and the only problems he has last year were inexperience, a horrible o-line and wr's dropping passes.

Jets- 2009 SB Champions.

I'm sticking to that.

Woo hoo! 8-8! 9-7! Almost as good as two years ago!

You're right about Clemens. That's a pretty big assumption. People said the same things about David Carr. How'd that work out?

Just judging from the players we're linked to being "interested" in, I'd expect (through the draft or FA or both) further incoming talent/starters at RT, CB, WR, and OLB.

If they're any good, the 2009 team will take us as far as Clemens/Pennington and the coaching staff takes us. There will be enough talent on the team to win over 10 games.

I think that we were a ****ty team last year and we play in a tough division, we also have the take into account the big ???? we have at QB. If chad starts, we sucks and win 2 games. If Kellen plays ****ty we win 5 games, if he plays meidocre we win 7-8 games, if he plays great we could win 11 games and make the playoffs. You just never know what can happen. But we improved and are improving our defense and our offensive line looks to be getting there. Now we have to realize we don't have many offensive playmakers, we need a deep threat wr. If we have a QB with a strong arm, we need someone to go down the field quickly and be able to catch the passes he throws.

NE was the only good team in our division last year. Miami was 1-15 and the Bills were 3-9 against teams not named the "Jets" or "Dolphins" in '07.

Trade DRob for a late 1st rounder or high 2nd. I'd wet myself.

Sperm

I have to assume that you have taken a vow of celibacy. You will never get to cum over a 1st or 2nd for D-Rob.

Not that he might not be worth a late 2nd to a 4-3 3 thec team, but why would they pay it?

He is due what? 9 million this year? Is he worth anywhere near that?

If he is traded, he will have to redo his contract. Why would he do that?

He's gonna say "pay me, or release me" If he is released, he can offer his services to the highest bidder, with out the extra charge of compensation to his new team.

.

Teams will pay players a lot more if they don't have to surrender draft picks for them.

Most smart players turn over their contract negotiations to very highly paid, very skilled lawyers/agents. The player plays football, the agent makes deals.

I don't see it being in the best interest of D-Rob to agree to a trade for less money, then it is for him to be released, or paid.

Good? They went undefeated. Miami and the bills are both improving and getting better. It would be awesome if we sweep both miami and the bills and get a win from the pats. I just don't see it happening.

With what DT's are getting there is reason to believe that a team could trade for him and convert his pay this year into signing bonus as well as add some more dollars and a year or two. This would solve the salary problem.

Best next move is trading Drob...the market looks set at a 3rd and 5th. I'd be estatic with that. We have many options in the draft. With #6 overall we can go outside pass rusher and select Gholston or Harvey. CB with DRC, McKelvin or Jenkins. Depending on how the draft goes we could even go OL with J. Long, Clady or even Albert. If we can get the 3rd and 5th back we could set the future of both the OL and defensive front seven for many years. The beauty of of all the moves is we will find out about Clemens soon. He has a stronger arm than Chad and too many times he was running for his life trying to make something happen. This could have been the OL or he could just be hyper and never develop as a solid starter but at least we'll know. TBH. I'm OK with Chad as the backup as he does not come across as poor teammate who will whine when he's not starting. The OL is better, he's had success so he could lead the team if Clemens struggles and he has to want to perform well if he ever wants another shot at a starting job in the NFL.

he showedtons of flashes that make me think he can be more than a solid QB for years to come. Take a look at his interceptions, most were deflections off of receivers who had no business wearing NFL uniforms. That, or the worst guard in the NFL allows Richard Seymore to come at him at full speed knocking the ball straight up in the air.

Kellen has done a lot of good things, he brought the team back on more than a few occassions, he beat Pittsburgh, even when things were going very much against him.

It's easy to pick out his faults, but Kellen will have a good to great year next year with the O-line he's going to have. I have all the faith in the world that he will have a great year next year.

Prediction: 2nd round exit of the playoffs.

I like kellen to, but if ryan fell you have to think about it, we do need a new rt clement sucks speed rushers fly by him, not sold on moore either but he's better than average. Would be nice to have a true blocking fb, a burner wr and of course a stud cb. any chance d rob could redo his deal? i want that fat ass to do something he was the 4th overall pick, he could play de in this 3-4 we have to give it a shot if someone doesnt offer something decent

So far, so good, absolutely (the great thing about both Jenkins and Faneca are that they are very strong clubhouse guys and they are both hard workers - they will be excellent leaders, which means they should make their teammates better); but the Jets still have holes at CB, RT, WR, DE and OLB. They can fill two of the holes in the draft (The interviews with Pace that I have seen indicate to me that he will sign with Miami unless blown away by a Jets offer - I'd pass) but I'd like to the Jets lose Robertson's financial obligation and bring in pro-level RT and CB.

I guess the Jets will draft Gholston now if he's there but he does not seem to me like a Mangini guy (he's a specimen for sure, but does he put out every play?; I'm not sure). The top CB would not surprise me (McKelvin or Jenkins or Cromartie or, less likely, Talib).
