Just read on jetsinsider that at 8:30 schefter reported on nflnetwork that Woody is close to signing(not meaning tonight) no contract details.

Wikipedia(I know not an ideal source) but they have Woody listed as a Jet.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damien_Woody

I still think that they should go after olivea-younger...

But..I'm happy with the way the FO is getting playmakers...even if we get woody- top 5 off line in the nfl

I must say this is such a great offseaosn, but mostly for the OL

Signing Bill Callahan to coach the OL. He's gonna look like a genius, because of the play this OL should bring.

Signing Alan Faneca.

About to sign Damien Woody(plus Schefter is rarely wrong, so I say it's true)

LT-D'Brickashaw Ferguson

LG-Alan Faneca

C-Nick Mangold

RG-Brandon Moore

RT-Damien Woody

All I have to say about that line is

DAMN!!!!!!!

if we somehow do trade down and find ourselves in a position to grab Albert at OG, i can't see us not putting up 1700 on the ground this year.

Albert would be great but there are others to consider ... since Woody can just as easily play RG, the Jets could draft one of the RTs (Cherilious, Nicks, Baker, Otah) AND a WR or CB. Can you imagine a Jet team that has some depth? Me neither :)

If true its another solid signing by Tangini. Woody can play almost any position on the line and for now seems to be stepping in at Right Tackle in place of Anthony Clement. This will allow the Jets to keep Clement as a back-up or release him if they find another Tackle to draft in the 2nd or 4th round of the draft. If Hardy and Cromartie are off the board at 36 and Cherlius is on the board, the Jets could take him and move Brandon Moore to a back-up role and insert Woody at RG. If not, he'll make a fine Right Tackle. Heck, they could still sign Shane Olivea who last I heard was scheduled for a visit sometime this week.

Solid pick-up if true.

I think Cromartie and Hardy are easy first round picks. And I think the Jets take Cason over Cherilious. I'm hoping for Nicks (giant fella with Neb links to Callahan) but he had a strong combine and might not be there at #36. It hurts that the teams picking ahead of the Jets also have glaring holes in the O-line.

Agreed. I know Olivea had a large contract with SD so I'm not sure what he'd be looking for from a new team. He's only 26 I believe so he's quite a bit younger than Woody.

I say we sign Olivea too. Woody is probably better at Right guard than tackle. Now imagine this line.

LT DBRICK - LG FANECA- C MANGOLD- RG WOODY- RT OLIVEA

use Moore, Wade , and Clement as backups.

Can u say solid.

Yup, you've got a solid OL there plus veteran backups. Don't know how the $$ would work out. I DO like the idea of signing both Woody and Olivea.

He got moved to RT, because of his bad play at RG. He has only started 5 games in his life at RT, but there saying thats his best spot, and RG he's very inconsistent.

If the Jets use the second pick to take a RT (Cherilious, Nicks, Baker, Otah, whomever) and this guy plays really well in camp then the best Jet O-line unit could see Moore on the bench. Woody may be inconsistent at RG and still be light years better than Moore.

I know! That's why i'm so puzzled as to what they will do in the draft. It would be great going into a season knowing B Moore will be a backup and having a few rookies and bender competing for positions along the line.

Are biggest hole has to be WR at this point, but i still think that unit is servicable. I fully expect a playoff appearance this year.

Funny all this money to replace a guy who wanted just one more million dollars. :)

It is good stuff and nice to know that they saw the running and passing game just turn to hell with no offensive line.

It is almost like they are admitting they made the mistake.

Now, can they get these guys together, form a solid unit, bolster (or lessen) D'bricks job and produce a solid running game that can get 1 yard in 2 tries?

If so, we are back to 10-6 or better.

Another good move by T-baum. Jets will no longer have the smallest, weakest O-line anymore.

Jets making push to land former Patriot, Lion OL Damien Woody

BY RICH CIMINI

DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Monday, March 3rd 2008, 4:00 AM

Damien Woody (l.) goofs off with Matt Light in 2004 before Super Bowl with with the Patriots. Now, after a stint with the Lions, the Jets are courting Woody.

Continuing their free-agent frenzy, the Jets were deep into negotiations Sunday night with former Lions guard/tackle Damien Woody, according to an NFL source. Barring a snag, a deal could be reached Monday.

Woody, 30, is projected as the starting right tackle, replacing Anthony Clement, but he never played the position until the final five games of last season.

Between Woody and left guard Alan Faneca, whose five-year, $40 million contract will be announced today, the Jets have addressed the two weakest positions on their offensive line.

Listed at 6-3, 335, Woody, who made the Pro Bowl in 2002 with the Patriots, has battled a weight problem. Ditto, newly acquired nose tackle Kris Jenkins, who weighed more than 390 pounds at the end of the season, according to a source. The Jets may have included a weight clause in his new five-year, $35 million contract.

Also yesterday, the Jets arranged a free-agent visit Wednesday for Dolphins running back Jesse Chatman - a curious move, considering they have Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. Patriots safety Eugene Wilson is expected Tuesday.

Cardinals linebacker Calvin Pace returned home after a weekend visit with the Jets and will decide between the Jets, Dolphins and Bengals. The Jets also may try to arrange a visit with Eagles corner William James, known around here as former Giants corner Will Peterson. The Jets lost out on former Patriots corner Randall Gay, who signed a four-year, $17.8 million contract with the Saints.

Where the hell were you on the free agent list last year Mike? It's about time he's going out to turn this O-line & D-line around!

Way to go Mishbucka!
