Glad I wasn't on this plane...

Recommended Posts

When I was flying back from Miami in December they had delays at Newark because of high winds. they only had one runway open for landings so you could land with the wind, not against it. this is a perfect example of why you shouldn't try and land a plane going into high winds.

Where is #27TheDominatrix with his German engineering comment?

Great job by the pilot in avoiding disaster.

I don't know that I agree with you. A great job would simply mean the pilot aborted the landing attempt no later than as he was getting sideways when he passed over the guy filming the vid. He was well out of control by that point and should have thrust it then. Once that plane dropped and tried to take back off all of that was just the pilot flooring the throttle and pulling up like a madman. He's lucky as hell that plane righted itself and didn't destroy the wing.

supposedly there were 100mph crosswinds if that makes sense..

lets put it this way.. it would be a long time to get me on a plane after that... heck i dont like flying in the first place. oy.

its easy to pass judgement like that, but who knows what the details were.

but ill tell you what: if i was on that plane, my underwear would be packed with feces and id be crying. when it went sideways? OMG

so how did it end up? did he land her elsewhere?

He went round a couple of times, and landed ten minutes later.

Anyone that has been in a plane knows the enormous power it takes to get one of these off the ground. It's not like the pilot can just hit the gas and get that thing back up in the air in a second, all the while being whipped around by the wind and going sideways mind you. He had to stabilize before he could do any of that. He was at landing speed, not taking off speed... I think he did a great job. No one died, a few people passed out, a lot of people pissed their pants.

You cannot ask for more under these circumstances.

I heard he landed at another airport nearby and all other landings at this airport were suspended for a bit.
