Tanny on Boomer and Carton

Tanny was on with them this morning and even though he did his usual dance around specific questins, I did come away with a few things based on what he did actually say....

On Jenkins- They had him in prior to the trade. They discussed his weight and his commitment. he agreed to find a residence in the NY area and work out all off season with the JET coaches rather then on his own. They said he was very amenable to the wieght clauses in his contract and is excited for a new start.

On Faneca- Nothing earth shattering other then they expect him to be a leader and help Brick develop.

On Woody- This was interesting. He kept using the word "vesatility". How Woody has played C, G and now T and that they see him contributing in "several" ways over the course of his deal. This tells me that while he will start out at RT, he probably wont stay there long and that drafting/developing a RT is still a priority. If I were Brandon Moore, I'd be sure I played very well this season.

On Pace- Again, the word versatility was used...alot. They harped on his ability to not only play the run and rush the passer, but his prowess in dropping into coverage also. I have a strong feeling that they see him as their "Adalius Thomas". A guy who will line up in sevral different positions both inside and outside and that the idea of taking an edge rusher at 6 is still on the table.

On the QBs- Both are here, both are staying, both will compete. Carton tried like hell to get him to admit that they want Clemens to start but Tanny wouldnt bite. he did say they saw a lot of things on tape from 07 that they liked from Clemens.

On Drob- As of today, hes still a Jet and they expect him at OTAs etc. Tanny admitted DRob is due a 3 mil roster bonus in June and luaghed when Carton said "there is no way he sees that check".

On the draft- Typical...he said "all options are open" (referiing to DMC). He did say one intersting thing. Carton asked abuot philosophy...BPA or need. Tanny said they have their board and they try and stick to it but "in this age of the cap and FA, sometimes you have to deviate from that board but you try not to devaite too much".

On Coles- He said he has spoken to Coles since Coles went public and things are OK (not sure I believe that but whatever). Says he has tremendous respect for Coles but would not comment on the "guaranteeing the last two years offer".

On the money- None of the deals that they signed, as constructed, should put the jets in any cap peril (so long as none of these guys bust in year 1 and need to be cut that is!!!!). he epxects each player to be here for a number of years and this the cap ramifications of these deals will not be bad at all.

On the O- Carton was hilarious. he said "now that the O Line is fixed, can we expect to see a pass of more then 5 yards"? he said he named the Jets O "the sneak and lob". It was a pretty funny exchange.

I missed the last few minutes because I go tot work but that was the jist. Funny, Carton asked better questions then those two morons in the afternoon ever do.

Thanks for the post. I really enjoy Carton and Boomer. I usualy catch them from 8 until 10, but I had an appointment this morning so I missed the interview.

Whoever wants to listen, go to www.wfan.com around 11 or 12 and they should have the audio up.

Carton won't let up, which I love about him. He is a jets fan and hates when people dodge his questions.

Good post.
