F'n POS MacBook Pro

Bob

Recommended Posts

This worthless POS just dumped an hour of my work. I'm working along when the pinwheel of death shows up and everything stops working.

Dammit. I'd like to find the guy who wrote the ad that scared my boss into buying these things because he was worried about viruses. I'd like to shove this laptop right up that guy's ass.

I saw this thread while browsing all the forums. and I just knew it had to be started by Bob The Jets Fan™

:rl:

Bob, seriously. if your entire company had the same problems you're having with your Macbook pro (all the time, according to you), I don't see how your boss stays in business. :)

Maybe you should go back to paper and pencil.

Anyone, no matter what system, who works for an hour on something and doesn't save it periodically (most programs save things automatically) and loses work, has A) not been using computers very long or B) is a complete idiot.

Open Apple + S = Save

Well, **** you for calling me an idiot, but your point is good. If I'm going to work on a POS computer, I'm going to have to adjust to that handicap.

Your welcome.

Your need for attention and your attacks on Mac to get that attention are just getting old.

From reading all your posts about Apple/Mac/iPod I am convinced that the real problem isn't the hardware or software but that you don't know how to operate it.

BTW: If you ever want real help, besides just blowing off steam, you will find that most Mac people are more than willing to help.

As usual, you're wrong. And, if you think you Mac fanboys saying "Get a Mac" whenever someone has a computer problem isn't getting old, you need to think again.

I never tell someone to "Get a Mac" unless it actually fits their needs. If someone is a bigger gamer, uses very specific Windows software, or work in a very big Windows environment, I never suggest a Mac.

On the other hand, I also don't come in to this forum and post "Windows Sucks MY ****!" every time my machine at work reboots for no reason (twice a week) an application crashes (a few times a day) or IE/Desktop just freezes up and needs to be restarted (daily as well).

Sure, I could, but then some mental giant would just label me a "Apple Fanboy".

Again, your useless diatribes about Macs for no other reason than you seem to like attention are getting old.

If you have a real problem, all us "fanboys" could actually help you out. If you don't know how to save your work (File -> Save) maybe a simpler device would better fit your needs.

Why should he have to do that? You and Joebaby parade Macs as infallable machines capable of anything you throw at it. Only PC's get viruses, adware, CRASH!

What's most amusing about this is a PC will have autosaved th document. If Bob was working on a PC with XP or Vista, the moment he reopened Word it would have shown him a link to autorecover the document exactly where he was when the computer rebooted. I guess Mac is too busy making cool commercials to add practical features.

First of all, neither Joebaby or I have ever said Macs were "infallable machines capable of anything you throw at it. Only PC's get viruses, adware, CRASH!". So you can take your FUD and spread it around somewhere else.

We have and do say that Macs are more stable, have less viruses and adware and are easier to use.

Auto save is in all versions of Word.

Thats not true....Word for Mac has autosave and recovery. Also all OS's have their flaws...even Linux.

Exactly. I had a linux kernel crash that overwrote every piece of date on ALL drives (RAID) as it went down, basically destroying EVERYTHING.

That made me mad. :)

Macs have less viruses and adware because it represents a significantly lower percentage of computer users, if/when you see Macs getting a larger market share you will see people actually taking the time to write viruses and exploit the weaknesses of mac. Right now, people write/code the exploits and viruses for windows based systems because that is what most people use. And all technology and computer suck and crash and are unstable. I've had just as much trouble using macs as I have had usuing PC's. I game so I own a PC but if I took up video editing again I would definitly get a macbook.

That is only one part of the equation.

1. Hackers also go where they can make a name and since everyone claims that Macs are so bullet proof why aren't hackers attacking the platform to show off.

2. A huge part of the reason OSX is so secure is the foundation of the operation system, Unix. Read up a little on the Unix architecture and come back and lets discuss the Vista core vs Darwin.

3. The last thing that makes OSX so secure is the lack of IE and Outlook two of the worst defenders when it comes to security holes.

so would a mac. the thing your talking about is a function of Word, not Windows. But Bob would have had to save the document first, no matter what system he was using. Unless of course he was working in InDesign on his Mac, in which case he would have had a recovery doc no matter what.

I use Macs for Graphics, Video, Web, etc. and used to crash several times a day under all OS before 10.1, but nowadays have a section on my chalkboard where I tally days without a crash - currently 142 as of 6/6 - and that's workdays - previous streak was 283 before a firefox too-many-tabs-induced lockup. Warning - just because you can open a hundred tabs while researching tech corporate gifts, doesn't mean you should. I admit that I do not use MS Office much at all, which would probably kill my streaks much sooner.

i've always been curious as to how that statement is used as justification to use a PC. hmmm... should i care more why i don't get viruses/adware, or that i don't get them? it's really a great choice to make, especially when you have 2 young, curious 'beginning' computer users in the house.

should i be upset that the reason i've never been shot is that i live in a safe neighborhood? would i feel better about surviving every day if i lived in camden, nj?

I love mine, its considered 'older' now but I've never had a problem with it. Also hoping they don't discontinue the Mini, WWDC can't come soon enough!

I've had my trusty little old iMac for nearly 8 years now. I use it everyday and (knock knock) it's NEVER given me any trouble nor caught any viruses. My 3 kids and their newer PC's can NOT make that statement.

They have some neat grammar tools on them, you may want to look into. :)

What an a-hole you are... Typical stalker BS. Don't you have anything better do to than wait months to stalk my posts and try to start arguments? You aren't adding ANYTHING to this 2 week old topic other than to try to start a fight with me. Go F yourself.
