DieHardJetsFan
This could happen Mia-Chris Long STL-Vernon Gholston ATL-Matt Ryan Oak- Darren McFadden KC-Jake Long Some say it's crazy to draft Kenny Phillips @ #6, but I honestly feel this is one of the best safetys to enter the draft in years, not only is he great in coverage but the man can HIT and HIT hard. Rhodes and Phillips could be a deadly Safety combo and lethal in the secondary with a solid #1 CB in Revis. If Both Long's, Gholston, Ryan, McFaddaen are all off the board when we pick at #6, I pull the trigger on Phillips. Just watch that youtube highlight and tell me what you think, forget that we draft @ #6, just tell me what you think
Iceman88
As I said in the other thread I'd much rather draft Rodgers-Cromartie than Phillips. Two stud CBs and 1 stud Saftey is much better than 2 Safetys and 1 stud CB. Plus Phillips is not talented enough to be a top 10 pick. He won't be one of the best safetys in the league. RSJ
I would rather have Cromartie too. I feel more comfortable with Rhodes and Elam than I do Reveis and ?.
DieHardJetsFan
Man, I just see so much more of Taylor in Phillips more than I do an Ed Reed, one thing about Phillips, the kid brings it each and every game, plays coverage and looks to make WR's pay with everything he has. I would much rather have a hard hitting Safety like J.Lynch in his prime over a #2 CB I dont know, thats just how I feel.
BroadwayJoe12
I wouldn't be surprised if kenny phillips fell out of the first round or was taken by the giants with the 31st pick. In my opinion the guy is all potential and less production. Mike mayock is one of the best talent evaluators in the business, but his specialty is by far defensive backs. I may not admit that phillips is worse than morgan, but i respect mayocks picks. One of mayock's biggest problems was that phillips dissapears against the big teams and most of his big plays have come against fairly pedestrian/bad teams; duke and FIU. Lets look at it this way...when he first burst onto the scene in his second game as a freshman against #20 ranked clemson in '05 he had an amazing 10 tackles and 1 int. Since than, Miami has only played 13 opponents who were ranked in the top 25; this is 1 game more than a full season and he ammassed a mediocre 63 tackles, 5 tfl, 1 FF and 2 PD. Is this what you want from your #6 overall pick??? I am not a big stat guy as a lot of the times they are a product of a good/great defense or come against crappy opponents, but when i hear comparisons to Ed Reed, Sean Taylor RIP or even bob sanders, it upsets me, becuase as far as production this guy is not even in the same ballpark. He is right up their in the measurables category, but when you draft a guy with the 6th overall pick, hell even in the top 20 I want someone who has both great potential, but the production to back it up. Stats for the top safeties in the league Ed Reed (4 years): 288 tackles, 21 INTs (5 ret for TD), 5 sacks, 11 TFL, 53 pass def, 4 blocked kicks Laron Landry (4 years): 315 tackles, 12 INTs, 8 sacks, 16 TFL, 40 passes def, 2 blocked kicks Brian Dawkins (3 years): 247 tackles, 11 INTs, 8 FF, 4 FR (couldn't find TFL or pass def) Bob Sanders (3 years): 346 tackles, 7 INTs, 4 sacks, 15.5 TFL, 13 FF, 31 pass def, 1 blocked kick Troy Polamalu (3 years): 278 tackles, 6 INTs (3 ret for TDs), 29 TFL, 13 pass def, 4 blocked kicks Sean Taylor (2 years): 188 tackles, 14 INTs (3 ret for TDs), 1 sack, 7 TFL, 2 blocked kicks *it should be also noted that dawkins and sanders weren't even first round picks. Kenny Phillips (3 years): 198 tackles, 13.5 TFL, 7 INTs, 10 pass def, 3 FF, 0 ret TD, 0 blocked kicks. Remember 5 of his INTs coming vs. Duke and FIU. Anyways, I personally don't thinkk the guy grades out to be a top 20 pick and even if he did i would rather select another CB, they are much more valuable. I also wouldn't rule out darnell bing making any type of contribution, he had some of the best intangibles coming out a few years ago. (I gotta thank some other guy on a different website for all the stats, no idea his name but good compilation)
DieHardJetsFan
phillips dissapears against the big teams and most of his big plays have come against fairly pedestrian/bad teams; duke and FIU. Thats what I dont understand, EVERYONE is so high on Rodgers-Cromartie, but thats all he played was weak schools, his whole career. Your whole post was great, I agree, maybe Phillips would be a huge gamble at 6, I just like what I see in the kid, and his upside is unreal. With all that said, Gholston and McFadden are my top 2 choices as a Jets fan.

I wouldn't like any of them with our 6th pick, i really hope it doesn't come down to that. Anyways, there are two things i trust with our FO as of now; doing well with the salary cap and talent evaluation, so I'm hoping they'll get the right guy. He could be intriuging with our 2nd pick if we don't think we're gonna be able to sign rhodes long term, but we'll have to wait and see. I wish teams would post their bigboard after the draft is over so we can see who had what ranked where; i know it wouldn't be a smart idea, but it certainly would be interesting. The Troll
If we blow the sixth pick on a ****ing safety, I will go run over a puppy.
nyjetsjetsjets
i think he may be there when our 2nd round pick comes around, would you take him then? i would think about it, depending on who else slipped to the 2nd round.
bobbyjet69
Rodgers-Cromartie also destroyed at the Senior Bowl and had an amazing combine. That's just it. He got burned alot in college, some by players who will never be in the NFL. I read and heard this on radio and TV. I know his upside is huge(potential). bt onegame does not make a star, especially at #6. He may be 2-3 yrs down the road.
