Accents

Was watching the movie Gone Baby Gone last night.

The Boston accents, man do they butcher the English language?

Not trying to pick on Boston here, but how on earth did that evolve?

Also been watching the series Rome.

Interesting how the ancient Romans all had British accents.

Yeah, I know the BBC was involved, but it was mostly HBO

I just finished watching Gone Baby Gone an hour ago. Good flick. However, I must enlighten you all. Not everyone is the Boston area talks like that. However, life-long Dorchester residents, as depicted in the flick, mostly do. As do the folks that have lived in Quincy all their lives (where the quarry was). The thicker Boston accents happen to be in the Boston eclaves, south shore suburbs close to Boston and hockey towns like Billerica and Wilington. Hate to burst your bubble - but the heavy accent in that movie is typical of a few. That said, the term "rethaded" is used throughout the state rather liberally. :P

Thinking about Gainzo living in the Boston area going back to Oz where all his buds say "what did you say?"

My accent is all screwed up. My friends refer to it as a "Bostralian" accent.

I've always liked the South African accent. I can pick that accent out from a mile away.

I LOVE Southern accents, but only when they are used by an attractive, blond girl. Otherwise, accents that arn't New Jersey or NYC, are awful.

Aussie accents when spoken by hot blond girls arn't bad either.

What does that phrase mean in non Boston speak?

We don't all speak with that accent in the Boston area.

The "stereotypical" Boston accent is heard in places like Revere, Somerville, South Boston & Quincy.

Get close to the Rhode Island border and it gets even worse.

BTW: Here is a clip of a guy doing the Baltimore accent. He is 100% accurate.

The terminology was a bit different, but that accent didn't sound too bizarre.

Oops...

Forgot to add eh!!! ........after each sentence like a good Canadian does.
