seacrest introduced song saying it was copied form original artist

That's the first time that's been done.

His version of Lionel's and The Beatles songs were also someone else's arrangement. No credit was given.

The only reason Seacrest did it was because of some pissed off people.

That little schmuck, Archuletta, will probably win and his first album will go platinum - never under-estimate the tweenie-bobber consumer $ (mom and dad's) strength. Thing is, these tweenie-boppers have the attention span of an ameoba, therefore Archuletta will get kicked off his record lable sooner than you can say Ruben Studdard.....he'll take to drink....go check out a brothel in one of those towns he went on mission trip to two years prior, and die.

Have I told you all I can't stand looking at that kid? What is it about him that drives me nuts??? I'm awful.

Maybe it's the annoying breathing between versus or the licking of his lips? Or his phony "I'm so shocked that you like me" routine. BLEH!

No doubt, I agree that he is going to win it all. It's just so obvious... I'm sure I posted that somewhere very early on..

Jeff Archuleta -- Stage Dad From Hell

Posted Mar 19th 2008 4:00PM by TMZ Staff

0319_archelutas_welcome_ex.jpg David Archuleta's dad, Jeff, is a piece of work.

Sources close to "Star Search" tell TMZ that when David was a contestant back in the day, Jeff's behavior was so bad, he was eventually barred from the lot! The guards actually had a picture of Jeff's mug hanging in the guard shack in case he tried sneaking in.

We're also told the father of the year harassed Tiffany Evans, his "Star Search" rival, lurking outside her practices, even trying to coerce her into drinking milk before a show to ruin her voice. She didn't listen (obviously) and went on to win.

Sources also tell us Daddy Dearest sometimes screamed at his son and has even withheld water during rehearsals, even bringing his son to tears.

As far as "Idol" goes, we hear papa's wrath is still in full blossom. That might explain why Jeff, who normally sits in the audience, was replaced by other family members last week.

David Archuleta's So-Called 'Stage Dad'?

400_darchuelta_080312_fox_raymickshaw.jpg

Copyright 2008 Ray Mickshaw/ FOX / FOX

Is there more to his shaky performance last night?

Was there more than just nerves behind 17-year-old DAVID ARCHULETA's shaky performance on last night's "American Idol"?

The early favorite was definitely off his game and even forgot several lines during his version of THE BEATLES' "We Can Work It Out." Sources are telling ET the singer may be feeling the pressure from his "stage father" JEFF ARCHULETA, who reportedly yelled at David during a recording session Monday. Sources say Dad wasn't happy with his son's singing -- and even brought him to tears. Neither Jeff nor reps for "American Idol" would comment on the alleged incident.

Update: LYNN and ALEX, writers of entertainment blog www.laragmag.com tell ET that this may not be the first time Jeff has lost it -- they tell us that he was banned from the set of "Star Search" when a 12-year-old David competed on the program. The writers explain that there were rumors that Jeff had allegedly harassed a girl named TIFFANY who was David's competition in the contest.

I hope not. Syesha is heads and shoulders above Ramiele and Kristy. SO much better.

If it were me voting i would have voted Ramuele off this week

My gut tells me Syesha, she was just as good as anyone outside the top 4 for some reason the viewing audience is not impressed.

"American Idol" Contestant Hospitalized, Released

Posted Apr 2nd 2008 12:49AM by TMZ Staff

0401_cook_ex_4.jpg"A.I" contestant David Cook was rushed to the hospital tonight after experiencing heart palpitations and high blood pressure, and released a few hours later. His condition is still not resolved.

As we first reported, Cook was not feeling well during the day and his condition worsened after his performance. Cook was examined by show medics who determined his blood pressure was "far too high." Cook was urged to leave for the hospital during the show, but he wanted to wait it out.

After the show, Cook was driven to the hospital (not by ambulance) and treated by a private doctor to keep everything on the down low. The doctor gave Cook medication to bring his blood pressure down and he will monitored again Tuesday.

An "A.I." exec tells us Cook has been completely stressed out because his brother, who has been sick with cancer, had a setback within the last week. Earlier in the season, just before a performance, David collapsed and said he could not go on -- though he pulled it together at the last minute.

you guys are crazy. the kid has BY FAR the best voice out there.....he has what musicians seek: TONE.... this is something that can never be learned you have to be born with it.

his vocals are like a 60s les paul playing through a vintage fender twin reverb

I honestly couldn't believe Syesha was in the bottom three this week. She was one of the best vocals of the week and she is the one showing the most improvement week to week, as in she sounds better almost every time.

David Cook has been a favorite of mine since he did the Lionel thing. And I am pretty sure he did give credit where it was due after his performance.

is she the black chick from tampa? she was horrible on that whitney tune just screaming horrible

She wasn't singing the Whitney tune. She was singing it the Dolly Parton version and it was quite good.

And that Irish girl is not sexy and she's already had her chance at a record contract.

Archuletta might win, but he won't make any music I'd listen to (ie Clay Aiken crap).

  • Some observations from the data.
    • Ramiele had the lowest busy percentage during 82% of the East coast voting window last night. In fact her East coast trend was so weak that at the end of East coast voting she was definitively predicted to be voted off. This is very telling and not a good sign for her at all.
    • Ramiele got the same bump from the West coast this week that she got last week. Last week this bump seemed to keep her out of the bottom three - I don't know if it will keep her safe this week though.
    • Contrary to last week - Jason Castro started strong and then tapered off and contrary to Ramiele - his West coast trend is quite weak.
    • Only two tenths of a percent separate Jason, Kristy and Carly and only two tenths of a percent separate Carly from Brooke so the bottom three is going to be very close - just like last week.

[*]I'm merely speculating here and have nothing to base this on but with Idol Gives Back being next week and April fool's being yesterday, wouldn't it be a nifty little trick if no one was sent home tonight? This would be "shocking" which American Idol loves to be - and it would add drama to Idol Gives Back, which might lead to more viewers and thus more donations. One thing working against this is that last year on Idol Gives Back they sent no one home and I believe they explained 'that on a night like that - no one should go'. As usual, the only one way to know for sure is to - watch!

[*]On the other hand if Idol holds true to form we'll get a bottom, middle and top three tonight - the most detailed results we seem to get. Should be quite nerve wrecking, err, interesting - <gulp>. :)

I agree. Even tho I don't like him you have to put Jason in the top 5 because they

all liked him last night. Kristy saved herself with a pretty good performance.

I think its either Brook or Carly going home.

Carly loses votes IMHO every time the camera shows her husband,,having tatoos is one thing,,but this guy looks like he just got out from a 20 year stint in prison,,covers his face and he also has a very spaceish look on his face that almost looks like he could care less what happens to his wife on stage...

not saying its right,, but AI is popularity contest and mainstream is turned off by tatoos on face..

Good read on Smithson,,interesting thing state din artoicle is Kristy also had a recording contract before Idoll,,who wulda thunk?

'Idol' finalist went from record deal to waitress

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Carly Smithson may have snagged a big-time record deal as a teen, but her co-workers at an Irish pub in San Diego didn't even know the raven-haired, tattooed chanteuse could sing.

art.smithson.ap.jpg

Dublin-bred Smithson, 24, worked five days a week as a waitress and then as a bartender at the Field for almost three years, up until her stint as a finalist on Fox network's "American Idol."

"Carly, one day, told us, 'I can sing.' Then she sang, and she didn't stop. That was New Year's Eve, December 31, 2006," the pub's chef, Thomas Beatty, 31, told The Associated Press.

Smithson also co-owns 1-year-old San Diego tattoo shop Nothing Sacred with her tattoo artist-husband, Todd Smithson, whose face is covered in ink art.

"She's very modest, hardworking, polite, nice," Beatty said. "Did we realize she was as good as what she was? No."

After that New Year's Eve performance, Smithson -- born Carly Hennessy -- started singing at the pub every Saturday night, Beatty said.

She would work a shift, go home for a couple of hours, then return to belt out everything from U2 to Johnny Cash.

"I was shocked at the range of her voice," the Irish chef said. "She always sang this one song 'Black Is the Color,' a Scottish song. It would make everyone silent. Everybody would just be in awe of her."

As for her 2001 MCA Records debut, "Ultimate High," which flopped, Beatty said the pub's staff never knew about it.

"She never talked about having a record deal," he said.

Kevin Dickinson, 25, a tattoo artist at Nothing Sacred and a friend of the Smithsons, said Carly Smithson invested a lot of her own money in the album. He said lackluster sales could have been due to the album coming out soon after September 11, 2001.

As for her heavily tatted-up hubby, Smithson met him at Los Angeles International Airport when a friend sent her to pick him up. After a friendship and phone romance that included Smithson traveling between California and Ireland, the pair married about three and a half years ago, Dickinson said.

"She had a tattoo before she met Todd, but they got tattooed together in Orlando. And he did her knuckle tattoo," Dickinson said.

Smithson's upbeat nature, evident on "Idol" during her popular version of the Beatles' "Come Together" and a comeback to judge Simon Cowell after he criticized her take on the Beatles' "Blackbird," was apparent early on.

No longer a major label artist after her record failed, and then rejected from "Idol" auditions in 2005, she continued to sing.

"Carly is always really positive about everything. She never dwelled on the fact that she didn't make it before," Dickinson said. "Making 'Idol' this time was more an emotional relief because she's been trying for so long. When they said 'Welcome to Hollywood,' that was the bomb."

For Smithson, Hollywood may agree with her the second time around.

At 15, she moved with her father, Luke Hennessy, to Los Angeles with "only a demo in hand, hoping to spark label interest," according to an MCA Records online bio.

Smithson had already enjoyed some success as a young model, actress and singer in her native Ireland.

Her mother "was a top Irish fashion model," according to the bio, and at age 9, Smithson beat out 2,000 hopefuls for the role of Little Cosette in the musical "Les Miserables."

She appeared with Julie Christie and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in the film "Fools of Fortune." At 10, she recorded her debut album, "Carly's Christmas Album," a collection of holiday tunes. A few years later, Smithson landed a print ad campaign as the face of Denny Sausage.

"I always wanted to be a singer," Smithson, then 17, said in the bio. "I listened to Chrissie Hynde, Diana Ross, Madonna, Whitney Houston, everyone. I never took voice lessons."

Controversy swirled around Smithson at the start of the "Idol" season because of her commercial past, but other semifinalists also cut previous deals, including Kristy Lee Cook with Arista Nashville.

After moving to L.A., Smithson and her booming voice caught the attention of longtime composer Steve Dorff, father of actor Stephen Dorff.

"I discovered her," Steve Dorff told the AP. "I heard a CD that my manager sent. I called him back and wanted to meet with her. I assumed she was 25, 26."

Dorff said he was impressed by the "absolutely motivated" and "very cute, young, tiny and bubbly, fun kid" with curly hair.

He recorded some demos with Smithson, who had taken leave from high school, and introduced her to then MCA President Jay Boberg, who "flipped out" and signed her, Dorff said. Dorff was also parental, taking Smithson to Disneyland for the first time, along with his kids.

However, Smithson's "Ultimate High" was fraught with contentiousness. Dorff said he had creative differences with her and left the project. MCA spent $2 million trying to sell it, reported The Wall Street Journal in a 2002 story on Smithson.

"I thought she was more of a pop singer and better suited to that niche than rock. That was the direction she wanted to go. I didn't feel that was the direction I could serve her," Dorff said. "I let her do her thing and she did. ... It was not the album I would have made."

That album included the bouncy track "I'm Gonna Blow Your Mind" and a 2002 slot opening for Bryan Adams in Dublin, playing to more than 100,000 people. Photos on MCA's site feature Smithson in rock 'n' roll sleek belly baring tops, leather pants and wind-blown hair.

Dorff, who has worked with Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand, among others, did note that he had no regrets. For Smithson, he said, "it just wasn't the right time."

Irish tat (still my pick to go)

Syesha

Aussie???

I say they bring Sanjaya back and tell him that he's so good that they wanna bring him back. Then, we tell him he's gay and kick him off and everybody laughs at him. No, but seriously, it's gonna be Syesha. Also, David Archuleta is easily going to win it all.
