I have not had an epidural for back pain but I have had steroid injections in my back for pain and no they did not hurt. They numbed the area first so it was just a pinching feeling and maybe a little soreness in the muscle.

I have had epidurals for three c-sections and two of the three did hurt but in that case they go into the space in the spine so I am assuming that is alot different then just going into the muscle which is what yours will do I believe.

Don't worry you will be fine.

I hope the epidural helps you!!!!:)

Tomorrow I go in for an epidural steroid injection for the sciatica I've been dealing with. From the way the doc describes it, it sounds like it's going to hurt like hell. Anyone have one before who cares to share their experience?

It's no heavy revvy. They stick a fork in your rectum.

What really sucks is I have to get 2 more if them!!!!

They inject a needle of lidocaine into your spine. He kind of had to "pop" it in to break through the cartilage. That felt pretty aweful. Then they slowly, and I mean slowly, insert a monstrously long and think needle further down till it breaks through to the disc area (again another pop that sends a jolt down your leg like you wouldn't believe). Finally they release some ****tail of steroids and lidocaine that immediately burns like hell while you beg for them to pull the friggin needle out!! Then they tell you to come back in 2 weeks to do it all again. Super!!!!!!!!!

That sounds very similiar to what you get when you are having a baby. If you have a great tech then you do not feel any of it. I had two bad ones and one good one!!!! Hope next time is better for you.
