4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days:

This Romanian film is easily one of the finer human emotion films that we have seen in quite some time. It deals with one day in the life of a 1980-ish Romanian college girl and her roomate. One of them needs a abortion and the film deals with all that went into this task in 1980 Communist countries.

It somberly reminds us that once upon a time, abortion was considered a long arduos task to handle, unlike todays ease of use, aka, geting your nails doen between 2 and 3 PM. We are reminded often that in Romanaia at the time, you will go to prison for years if caught.

Add into that a wonderful depiction of Communist Romania before the fall, with its food lines, bleak transportaion, living conditions etc.

These girls handle this task with the naiveness and at same time the coming of age attitude you can see only in youth in times of pressure.

This film is wondeful if you enjoy heavy scripted human dramas. By the way, it won Cannes top prize this year.
