Report: Cowboys increase offer; Fisher says Titans ready to cut ties

ESPN.com news services

After their initial trade offer of a seventh-round draft pick for Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was declined, the Dallas Cowboys have added a player to their proposal, according to a report on SI.com Thursday.

The Titans are considering the deal but need to address some financial issues before they accept the offer, according to the report. Jones has two years left on his original five-year, $30 million contract, and the Cowboys want to redo the deal, likely to one year.

"The kid was the sixth pick in the [2005] draft and we need to get something of value in return," an unnamed Titans official told SI.com.

Jones has stated his willingness to renegotiate the contract and his agent, Manny Arora, met with Cowboys officials earlier this week.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher seemed to indicate the team was ready to sever ties with the suspended cornerback.

"We've given them permission to look for a new home and whatever happens after that happens," Fisher told The Tennessean. "He's entitled to his opinion. I know he has enjoyed the time that he has spent here on the football field. But because of his choices and such off the field, he's created a situation where he's going to have to look elsewhere."

Fisher told the newspaper no when asked if that meant the Titans were officially finished with Jones.

"All we can do is move forward and if we're able to put something together that we think is good, then we'll just wait on the commissioner's decision," Fisher told The Tennessean. "It's a peculiar situation, one that's a result of [Jones'] personal choices, and it's really just in the commissioner's hands."

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Thursday that it was possible for Jones to be traded while suspended. But Fisher did not think a trade could be seen as a reward for Jones.

"Last year when he was suspended by the commissioner in the offseason, we moved on," Fisher told the newspaper. "So those are not issues are far as we are concerned."

Apparently they'll have clauses in his contract that ensure Dallas will not suffer too much financially if Pacman screws up again. I heard that on NFL Network anyways.

The Cowboys may have the most talented team in the NFL right now. Jones and Newman are a scary CB tandem and compliment each other brilliantly. I wouldn't be surprised if this works our perfectly for the Cowboys.

Pacman's still a scumbag though.

Its stuff like this why there still are guys like Pacman in the league.

It's time for the TEAMS to take a stand (not the commissioner) and NOT SIGN THESE SCUMBAGS. One time only, please just let someone with talent who is a dirtbag go. It'll take 1 stand, and this will stop happening!!!!

You can't rely on the commissioner to protect you from YOURSELF.

We need to offer D-Rob and a 7th rounder.Pac-Man is coming back hungry and healthy our defense would be awesome with attitude.

Come on guys we need play makers and some players with balls and guts on this team.

We get Pacman and we could have players with gunshot wounds too.

Put the off field trouble aside this guy can play the game.

I agree totally. However it's tough to put them aside.

I'm not big on the whole 'high charachter' thing Mangini has going on either, but Pacman is a different breed of bad charachter. He's a pure scumbag.

The New York Jets need players and athletes other teams are surpassing us in taking chances. We continue to do the right thing and continue to lose.Give PAC-MAN a chance he screws up we cut him simple as that.

Id be first in line to buy a PAC-MAN N.Y JETS jersey.

He is garbage and it aint happening but imagine getting him for next to nothing for 2 years and drafting Gholston. This defense would be sick, lol.

he might not be a classy individual, but he sure as hell isn't a "garbage" football player. he is way above average and he can also return kicks.

the same morons who say they wouldn't want this guy are the same people who dont want chad johnson, and the same people who think leon washington is some amazing RB...get a clue people. the closest thing we have to a playmaker is kerry rhodes

Nobody will deny this. The man CAN play. The problem is as IJ has stated the man is a pure scumbag and the off fiels problems are HUGE. I wouldn't take this clown if he was a total FA.

Scumbag is being nice. This guy and his gun should be in prison.

Because of this POS scum bag (Pacman not you Smizzy  ) there's a former bodyguard in Las Vegas who IS imprisoned to a wheel chair for the rest of his life.

This may just be a rumor, but I hear that Jerry Jones sweatened the deal by offering Pacman a lifetime supply of ammo (of his choice) and to install stripper poles in the cheerleaders dressingroom.

The guy is a scumbay, and seems compleatly unwilling to change his ways. If they are really lucky he might behave somewhat for a year, in order to cash in, before he turns back to his scumbag ways.
