NFL considers free-agency window

By ADAM TEICHER

The Kansas City Star

PALM BEACH, Fla. | Next year maybe the Chiefs can get in the game with their favorite free agents.

The NFL at its league meetings is discussing a proposal that would create a window of perhaps five to seven days before the start of free-agency during which prospective free agents could discuss and even agree to contracts with new teams.

The league probably won

Its not only because of the Chiefs. This has been going on for years, and the window makes perfect sense. There is absolutely no reason why once a guy is a free agent, and the franchise tag window ends that people can't negotiate with other teams.

Now what they need to do is open the window, but if someone violates the window, punish them.. not with 3rd round pick swaps but something much more substantial.

What a whiny bunch of Marys the Chiefs are. Crazy idea-worry less about dreadlocks and more about who'll be blocking for Larry Johnson on draft day.Or make a point of pursuing free agents isntead of going to the beach in February. The NFL is a 12-month grind now; if you don't like it get another job. Instead, Edwards will have Peterson draft another glut of so so slow DBs and fat DL guys with spiffy nicknames like Tank and Turk. Heck, Edwards will probably be giving motiavational speeches all next Febraury coming of a 2-14 year("How to Suck at Being an NFL Head Coach and Inexplicably Keep the Job Anyway")to some punished bad salesmen drinking stale coffee in decrepit hotel ballrooms all day.

There is no rule that states player's have to sign on the first day of FA. Smart players will wait a day or two to field offers, like the one's we signed. :bag:

Or sign right away with any other team than the one that Herm is on :)

There needs to be a window, but if the current one is when the franchise window closes there is still a window. fa window and franchise window just happen to be on the same day. What does it matter when it is as long as all teams are playing by the rules. if it comes to pass that tampa or whom ever viloted that window then they need to be punished.

The current one is that there is no window. FAs are technically not supposed to talk to teams before, this year, on 2/29.
