aec4
Good job from both party's. Garrard more than earned his money. Good job by Garrard. Jags got ripped in my opinion. Everyone got on the jets for giving Pennington 64M after 3/4 of a season. Well Garrard has played 1 full season.... and is hardly worth that kind of money in my opinion. Let's put it this way. If Garrard was a FA right now, and we had 30M cap room remaining, and we gave him that contract I'd flip out.

Pennington received that contract 5 years ago. $64 million in 2003 is a heck of a lot more than $67 million in 2008. Especially if you factor in how much the cap has gone up in the last 5 years. Without seeing the details of both deals, it's hard to say which one is a heck of a lot more money, although on the surface, I agree with you. aec4
Did you watch him at all last season??? Yep, and I think he's so overrated it's not funny. With Garrard, your team has a ceiling, and unfortunately, that ceiling isn't at the Super Bowl Level. While Garrard > Pennington/Clemens, I don't think the gap is that great. Let's put it this way. 31 other teams, Garrard warms the bench on these teams: New England Pittsburgh Cincy Cleveland Tennessee Indy Houston (yes, I think Schaub is better) Denver Dallas NYG Philly Detroit New Orleans Seattle St. Louis So, I'm spending 7 yrs and 60M on a guy who couldn't start on approximately 1/2 the nfl teams... Judging by stats alone = big time way to make a mistake. He had a dominant running game with 2 stud runners.. They didn't need to pass. I went through the other 31 teams, and on 1/2 the teams, he wouldn't start.

I watched just all but one Jacksonville game this season and saw every game Garrard played. Every time I watched him I came away very impressed. Even in the Pittsburgh game in the playoffs where he struggle he made a game winning play in the clutch. He was definetly a top 7-8 QB last season. PASS Are you serious? Garrard would start for at least 3 three of those teams: Tennessee Houston Detroit Maybe even Cleveland. You stated that Garrard has only one full season of work. What does Derek Anderson have? I might even include Philly. McNabb is not the same guy he was 4 seasons ago.

I think Derek Anderson is better than Garrard. The contract doesn't bother me though, as you mentioned earlier Gainzo, cap has gone up substantially these past 5 years. Also Garrard did complete a full season, and he wasn't tailing off at the end or injured or anything. I don't think he was exposed like Chad was against Oakland. Some people act like Garrard is one of the elite QBs in the league. There is no way he is in the same league as either Manning, Brady (ugh), and a few others. I don't have a problem with listing him in the top 10. But when it looks like people are saying he is top 3-5, I have to disagree with that. There are at least 9 other guys I'd rather want QBing my team than Garrard, at least to this point. Ask me again in 2 years and I'll have a better answer. Arizona OL is ****, I'd love to have Warner in green and white with our revamped line. He's the best QB for a young QB to learn from. Unless that young QB is Matt Leinart, who is beyond tteaching right now. That guy's attitude is awful.
The Troll
I would take Garrard for 2008. Warner had a decent season in 2007 but his ship has sailed. Warner threw for 27 TDs and 3,400 yards last year and he didn't even start 16 games. And, for some reason, they put in Tim Rattay on the goal-line. Garrard is merely a game manager, a damn good one at that. But, he can't put a team on his back and carry them, IMO. Kurt Warner still can. If I have a one or two year window to win a championship, I'll take Warner over Garrard.
