NJ
Thats the classic retort of the Chad worshipers. More accusations today - any Jet fan who doesnt want Pennington throwing/fumbling any more games away hates Chad. The more juvenile accusers call it being a hater. I'm a hater - I hate the Jets losing football games to good football teams because they aren't one. Now we're going into the 08 season after a pretty good draft and a very good FA shopping spree and Chad is going to be the icing on the cake. With the new O line, defense, running game, and receivers - Chad will be able to perform all the necessary miracles and we will be a good football team. Wrong. Chad Penninton sucks as a quarterback for reasons we're all painfully aware of. Kellen Clemens showed signs by doing some things on the field that Chad can't and never could do. He fell way short of being a solid QB, but to say he's not capable shows little knowledge of how good NFL QB's progress. I don't hate Chad Pennington. I hate that his weaknesses keep us from scoring points in football games.

I really don't care what your personal feelings for him are. I think he is the better QB until Clemens can prove otherwise. He has shown NOTHING and proven NOTHING. All the potential in the world means nothing to me at this point. To say that Chad sucks is ignorant whether you hate him or not. Thanks for starting another meaningless argument thread so we can keep yelling about who should start when none of us have the slightest bit of influence over that decision. I just want the best man playing. I understand that Clemens can't be expected to be better from the start and I'll take a couple of losses IF there is upside. OTOH, I don't accept this Chad doesn't beat good teams bull**** either. Maybe he doesn't, but his record prior to '07 was pretty good. At least he usually beat the ****ty teams. What "good" team did Clemens beat? The Steelers? That was a Chad like win if I ever saw one. IMO, it's Clemens job to lose in camp, but he is certainly capable of losing it. jetfuel
Yeah - maybe I could do a new QB depth chart like your visionary thread of last week. Sorry that you took that seriously. I don't know how you did, but you did. In all honesty I see it as (1) Pennington (1a) Clemens and I think it should be decided in training camp if that is going to change. If Clemens had lit it up last year I would put him first but he didn't. I believe he should have every chance to win the job and prove himself. If I believed Clemens was the answer, I would certainly hand him the job. We will see. I hope he wins the job because it would be better in the long run if he can be the guy. Right now I don't see how he deserves to be handed anything. I'm assuming that you are speaking of this "depth chart" I posted: 1. Pennington 2. Ainge 3. Ratliff I would hope that people could tell I was kidding with that but I can't help it if they don't.

I too hope Clemens can beat out Chad for the starting job, I'm just not sure that he will and I think Mangini is doing the right thing by making them battle it out in camp. jetfuel
just needed to point something out: "I hate that his weaknesses keep us from scoring points in football games." I guess that Clemens 5 TD's in 7+ games of action is considered scoring points? I am not going to kill him or Chad for last year's crappy OL but where you see evidence that Clemens can score more points is beyond me. Is it possible? Yes. Has there been any real evidence of it? NO!

NO! 2004 playoffs Chad 3 Pitt 20 being up 2 in the turnover battle, getting a punt return TD and great field position throughout the second half and chad got us three. This is all before his second shoulder surgery. There is a reason chad is still on the roster, its because no one wanted to trade for him. so many teams have so many bad QB's yet there Chad sits, battling it out with a QB that had the worst QB rating ever. It's like a dog fight between two dogs with no legs.

The Jets didn't try to move him as far as I know other than unsubstantiated rumors. Do you think that maybe they didn't trade him because even if Clemens is going to start there is no one behind him with any experience? That would make more sense than trading away the only QB you have that has played more than 8 games in the NFL. And for that Pittsburgh playoff game. If I remember correctly, Chad led the team into FG range to win the game with time running out in the 4th QT and Herm had him kneel on the ball and lose a few extra yards so that Brien couldn't hit the FG. They could have won that game with Chad leading a 4th QT drive down the field to win it. How do you blame that loss on Chad? I do like your comparison of a dog fight between two dogs with no legs though ... it made me laugh. Both QB's were horrendous last year - that goes without saying. All you need is an Offensive Line thats somewhat decent and Chad Pennington can do the rest. Receivers? **** that, who needs receivers when you have Fullbacks? Bring back Richie Anderson. So now it was Chad's great QBing and ability to win that had him hand the ball off to lamont for a 20 yard gain that put them in field goal range? Interesting, i could swear it was our offensive line that cleared that path. Maybe chad handed it off then sprinted in front of jordan and then tackled the entire pittsburgh front. I'll have to re-watch the game film.
