I originally were feeling Italy would win, I had a similar feeling before the 06' World Cup. But with Cannavaro out, they will probably struggle and Matterazzi will probably be too busy getting sent off to really contribute.

Cannavaro was the main reason they won the World cup.

Holland and Spain look pretty good as always but I think they will find a way to mess it all up, as they do.

My pick as of now - Germany

If Holland can get out of that nightmare group, they could win it, but like Spain they`ve

promised so much for so long and choked under the expectation.

Even without Cannavaro, Italy should be good for the semis at least, did

Del Piero get picked for the squad??

I think Poland are going to surprise a few people, starting with Germany

After first days play..

Switzerland 0 Czech Rep. 1

Portugal 2 Turkey 0

Playing today

Austria v Croatia

Germany v Poland which should be a corker

I`m rooting for the Poles, there`s millions of them over here and if they lose

there could be riots on an England scale:-)

LOL, there are Polish people living next door to me. If they win - PARTY!!

It`d be quite strange to see every pub decked out in the red & white of Poland

rather than England:-)

Are there gonna any vbookie things going on with this?

I'm not sure, haven't seen any yet. I'm 1 for 1 in soccer bets though so hopefully.

Now it is 3-0. What happened to the Italians today?

The Negative tactics killed them, once they went down they had no response, not until Del Piero, Grosso and Cassano were on anyways. They seriously missed Cannavaro and Nesta at the back.

I wouldn't rule them out yet though.

Was that really only 2 years ago?? seems ages! was`nt that the game if they had`nt got the penalty

they`d have been eliminated but Italy scraped through and won it all?

Correct.

That was the Aussie team with Mark Vaduka, Tim Cahill & John Aloisi. Although the Aussies wouldn't have won the Cup it was tough to see them go out like that.

I caught the US - Argentina game last night...anyone hear what is going to to happen to that ref after the red card was issued? If the play holds up as a bogus call, which i haven't heard any different, don't refs lose their jobs over things like that?

Good game by the States too, i think a lot of our players are extremly overrated but 0-0 is a good result.

It was very harsh on Australia, they played well that game and would

have deserved it but the Italians know how to pull something out of the

bag when they need too.

Are`nt Australia on the shortlist to host it in about 10 years time?

Good result for the US against Argentina, who got the red card?

The Aussies want to host it but they lack rectangular stadiums with sufficient size to meet FIFA requirements. With cricket and Aussie Rules football being the dominant sports most of the large Stadiums are Ovals.

Is`nt the ASL or whatever its called suposedly taking off? are`nt they building new

stadiums over there? they have that one huge stadium that holds about 90k don`t

they? and besides those cricket stadiums are big enough they could hold two games

simultaneously and charge more for tickets, FIFA will love that:D

The MCG, http://www.mcg.org.au, is the largest stadium in Australia. It holds just under 100,000 spectators.

There is also the Telstra Dome, http://www.telstradome.com.au, that holds around 50,000 spectators and has a retractable roof.

Both of these Stadiums are ovals and are located about 5 miles apart in Melbourne.

Sydney has the Olympic Stadium as well as the Sydney Cricket Ground and Sydney Football Stadium. The SFS is the only rectangular Stadium in Sydney that could handle a FIFA event.

Brisbane has Suncorp Stadium which is a rectangular ground with a capacity of around 52,000.

Adelaide and Perth are Aussie Rules Football hotbeds so the Stadiums there are Ovals.

BTW: The National soccer comp in Australia is called the A-League.
