Question for Aussies....

I have a geography/weather question.

June 21 is the first day of summer (and heat), here in the good 'ol USA.

If I understand correctly, south of the equator it's becoming the COLD part of the year?

If so, do you still call it summer, and just associate summer with cold? or do you call June-Aug winter...since it's colder than Dec-Mar?

Just curious.

We call it winter. Summer is about Christmas and school vacation!
