Midnight Express
Why arent we sending Cavka or Jones over I really cant understand why not
bitonti
the only reason i could think of why they wouldn't be allocated is the team wants them close by, learning the new system in case they have to use them this year for real snaps - this is especially true of Jones at RT. R44
Decent question on Jones; great question on Cvaka. If these cats were drafted by the Broncos, they'd both be going--Broncos send all OL's drafted after rd 2 to NFLe and they've had great success--as has Green Bay and K.C. Jones is a higher pick, so maybe the Jets don't want to expose him to injury or have him lose time with the coaching staff in NY? Cvaka (sp?) is from tiny Sacremento State and a huge project--He needed to be sent and play in real games. Best lineman allocated so far, we know of, are: Trev Hutton (Colts); Tony Pape (Miami) and Steve Morley (recent 1st pick in the CFL overall, who jumped to G.Bay). Most notable Jet going is Matt Walters and he's not even a Jet anymore (Dolphins). In sum: Excellent point on Cvaka, LG&M/MNE.
bitonti
also remember if a guy goes to NFLe the chances of him contributing THAT SEASON to the real squad are slim to none - the guy will have been beat up and by the time preseason is over if he is seeing any real snaps his gas tank will be empty by midseason if they think there is any chance of Cavka or Jones playing next season they have to stay local and train with the rest of the "real" players. True a ton of NFLe players become NFL stars, but they rarely ever come real back strong the following NFL season, as Matt pointed out. There's a definite lag between NFLe and NFL success... Broncos send OL they expect to start down the road--Hamilton, Lepsis and a few others.
YJF
Teams take different approaches to NFLE. Right or Wrong. Most teams don't send their developing prospects to NFLE. They send the fringe player or massive project over there. Guys who have very little shot of making their roster but guys who may contend for a practice squad spot. teams don't like to risk their active roster players. They send the fringe roster player. There are certain exceptions like Rohan Davey but the truth is that training camp bodies are usually sent to NFLE. NFL longshots are sent to NFL Europe. The best thing to do is to send the players who just missed out on making your roster last season. Teams could do a better job of utilizing NFLE.There's no substitute for playing time. A guy like Ricky Ray will never see an NFL field unless everybody gets hurt. Might as well send him to Europe. Let him play a little.
Midnight Express
I can understand not sending both for fear od injuries, but if CVaka is this big of a project, I'm not too happy with the team for not sending him and letting him gain a little experience
