Chad Pennington delivers in 'must win' for Dolphins

Looks like Chad still knows how to play tough against good defenses...

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphins/content/sports/epaper/2008/10/26/a6c_pennington_1027.html

Pennington's first 300-yard game of the season couldn't have come at a better time, as the eight-year veteran hit 22 of 30 passes for 314 yards and a touchdown in a 25-16 victory over Buffalo at Dolphin Stadium.

"This was the biggest game of the year for us," Pennington said. "We never like to say it, but it was a must-win for us."

Pennington set the tone for the aggressive offensive game plan from the start, hitting Ted Ginn Jr. with a long throw down the right sideline for 46 yards.

"Pennington did a great job dialing (that) up," coach Tony Sparano said.

Sparano told his players at the Saturday night team meeting there would be an aggressive game plan.

"Special teams, offensively, defensively, we wanted to be aggressive," Sparano said.

Though he insisted it was "coincidence," Pennington was particularly aggressive in going after cornerback Terrence McGee, who had missed the previous two games with a knee injury and struggled all day, particularly against Ginn.

Pennington credited the success of the passing game more to Buffalo's stop-the-run approach.

"We felt they were going to put eight defenders down there to stop our running backs," he said. "We knew if we were going to have any success defensively we were going to have to throw the ball, and not only throw the ball, but throw (it) efficiently. We needed to pass it around and get completions and keep the chains moving."

I wonder if KC isn't a good QB too and Mangini just screws it up. It's pretty obvious now that our CS can make any QB look like crap. I bet we could make Tom Brady look like a scrub if he was forced to play for us. Mangini and Schott really need to coach a pro bowl one of these years, it'd be funny to heat them make excuses.

I haven't been involved in much of the "Pennington sucks debate". Always liked the kid, but was happy when he left. Not happy he went to Miami, because he seemed to fit there.

The sports bar I watched the Jets game in had the Fish game on a large screen TV, right next to the large screen TV the Jets game was on. Pennington clearly out played Favre.

The idea that the CS was the reason is silly. Favre has sucked except for one game.

The idea that the Fish could pass the Jets here isn't a silly one. If Favre keeps playing at the level he has been, it will happen

Chad Pennington is outplaying Favre by a long shot. And now that the Jets gimme games are over, we should be able to jump them in the standings. We still have games against San Francisco, Seattle and Oakland at home and still go to St. Louis and Kansas City.

:rl:

You have got to be kidding me. When you travel up to Buffalo, its going to be a whole diffrent story as they'll whipe the field with you guys. Division games, no matter who you play and what the records are, are always tough. Late in the year the Steelers will be 10-2 and Cincy will be 1-11 and they'll play a tight game, at least until the 4th quarter.

New England will also be out for blood, Belichick will not go quietly into the night and will put a major emphasis on smashing Miami.

Ted Ginn Jr. for the first time in his career acted and played like a Wide Receiver, congrats to him. Pennington's yardage once again was upped due to YAC's by his receivers, but I do agree that he's having a very nice year this year.

But to think Miami is going to be better than the Jets is foolish. Check out your schedule coming up Miami.

Miami will be no better than 7-9.

Also, St.Louis is not that bad. That will be a tough game.

Still?

Buffalo put no pressure on him and that was only compounded with McGee playing like McGimp.

Pennington had a good game, but when a defense doesn't put any pressure on the QB and leaves receivers so wide open so often (Fasano on the TD, Ginn, etc.), and a RB takes a dumpoff 40 yards (or whatever it was) it does not constitute playing against a "good" defense.

Oh, and this just in:

The "mighty" Bills have still beaten ZERO over .500 teams and the one team they played that is over .500, they lost and lost convincingly.

The Jets? 1-1

The Dolphins? 2-3

At least those teams have beaten winning teams.

I see your forrest green colored glasses haven't faded one bit. I would think your outstanding performances vs. the Raiders and Chiefs would've tempered your lofty expectations, but I guess not.

So now we don't get credit for beating the team that is leading the division? Hmm, weird, I thought we had struggled with the Bills in recent history; I guess we could consider it an "easy win" though.

Just because Belichick wants blood doesn't mean that helps them stop the run, or the pass for that matter. Also, they couldn't block Joey Porter in September, they won't be able to do it November. Cassel hangs onto the ball far too long, that's going to be a good game; hilarious that you think it's a blow out.

Please. Have you ever heard of a quarterback leading a receiver into YAC? Besides, the only play we had big YAC on was the pass to Ginn that he took 64 yards. The first play of the game was a 46 yard completion; all the 46 yards were covered on the pass.

How is it foolish? We still have the Raiders, Seahawks, Niners, Chiefs, Rams, Patriots at home and our game vs. Buffalo is in Toronto, not Buffalo.

Miami could go anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6; it depends on which team shows up. But to say the Jets are significantly better is the only thing that deserves one of these.

:rl::rl::rl:

Good luck against the Bills, Patriots, Titans, Bills again and then vs. us.

Oh and once again welcome to the Dolphin fans who only show up the day of or after or week of a Miami victory. After the Texan and Raven games we were blessed with none of this crap from Aqua and crashingjet.

You people still know nothing about Chad Pennington. Wait until you get to a big game, just wait. At 2-4 in October, I'd hardly call that a "big game". I mean, sure, it mathmatically keeps you in close contention, but watch Chad in a game when you're 7-7, needing to win the last two to have a chance.

Enjoy.

You are the one with the Aqua Marine :puke: colored glasses with your spewing of the Dolphins being a better team than the Jets and actually being playoff conteders. Are you freaking serious? Not a chance.

Good luck to you against the Bills in Buffalo, New England for revenge, Denver, Us (because, well, we own you and your since Marino retired pathetic franchise) and going on the road to St. Louis.

Dolphin fans backing Chad Pennington is hysterical, I enjoy it, its always a good laugh.

Against the mighty 3-4 Jaguars and 3-5 Chargers? No, they weren't. Jacksonville maybe. But San Diego making an East Coast trip coming to Buffalo, who has one of the top 5 home field advantages if the NFL? No, thats not impressive.

How about you find out what you're talking about before you type, okay? Until then, shut you're mouth; seriously it's getting old. I was here, not in full force posting at will, but I was here. Selective reading makes you look ignorant. Just because you didn't see my posts doesn't mean I wasn't here.

As for that guy that can't be counted on to win big games...

Do you mean the guy that that finished 2006 on a 3 game winning streak to get the Jets to 10-6 and to the playoffs? The guy that quarterback a mediocre team to the post-season? That guy?

Telling me to shut my mouth, when this is a computer, when you're on a visiting teams message board is just hysterical. You really are a ****ing joke. BTW, your link doesn't even work. :rl: What was it? One post after one loss? Awesome. Congrats to you!

Check out those teams that the mighty Chad played against in those final three games, their records those years, and then get back to me. I believe it was Minnesota, Miami and Oakland.

MIN 6-10

MIA 6-10

OAK 2-14

And then he went into New England and absolutely **** the bed in the second half, mostly the 4th quarter, against a real football team.

And once again, if I had mentioned this back in May or April, Jets fans would be laughed at by you and your followers. :rl:

See that's just the thing. I've admitted that it's possible that the Dolphins could win just 6 or 7 games. It's a possibility, but so is the possibility that they win 8 or 9 games. You, on the other hand, fail to see the lowly Jets continously playing like garbage. What encourages you about your team, seriously?

And what's wrong with hyping Chad? Seriously, look at his ranks.

QB Rating: 6th

Yards: 8th

Yard per attempt: 2nd

Comp %: 2nd

He's playing at a pro-bowl rate? What are we supposed to say? It's so damn frustrating dealing with such a homer.

Yes, QB Rating and Completion Percentage are AWESOME stats to make a case for a QB.

Did you know Chad Pennington has the highest completion percentage EVER (or maybe its 2nd, I forget, one of the two) of all QB's to ever have 1,500 or more pass attemps? Remind how many playoff games and championships he's won.

Backing Chad Pennington with QB rating and completion percentage, priceless.

Chad is having a solid year, but he's not playing spectacular. His receivers are making plays for him after the catch better than Jets receivers have since he had an arm.

Jets will be no worse than 8-8, Miami no better than 7-9. Remember that Aqua, although I know you won't be here after a Miami loss and certainly if what I'm saying comes true.

Well you assured me the Jets would win no less than 10 games at the start of the year and no you're coming down on that number.

Credibility = Out the window

Wrong.

I said the Jets could win anywhere from 8-10, maybe 12 games.

And if you had been here in the past few weeks for more than a couple of posts, you would've seen that I have again mentioned a 8-10 win season.

Oh and also I didn't know it wasn't okay to change your viewing of a team after actual games have been played :rl:

You never said anything about Miami going possibly 10-6, so in your world:

Credibility = Out the window.

Care to tell me how jaded his yard totals are?

And HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Miami's receivers are making Chad Pennington? You mean that Ted Ginn guy that your constantly claim is a bust? How about Greg Camarillo? Is it Davone Bess? Derek Hagan? Ernest Wilford?

Haha, man, you are a joke. You're just trying to find some out to save your incoherrent and wrong side of the argument. Just keep digging that hole, you look like a fool.

Sorry, but you're the only one who keeps digging his whole and is looking like a fool.

You posted 2 out of 4 catagories that are just RIDICULOUS and I responded to those. Thats great that his yard per attempt is around 11 yards, Miami has faster receivers that can stretch the field better than Jerricho and Laveranues could here.

That is how Miami's SPEEDY receivers in Ginn, Camarillo and Bess are making Chad Pennington. They are taking his passes and running. His yards per attempt are also flawed due to defenses falling for the Wildcat and leaving players like Cobbs downfield wide open where Pennington lofts it 35, 40 yards and Cobbs or Ginn or whoever, takes it the rest of the way.

But keep trying to nitpick things, but you keep continue to look foolish.

Man I wish I could be such a homer and flip flopper.

Well thankfully I saw this before the ignore.

40's times are much different than Football time. Players can have a bad 40 time and still have great football speed.

Learn the game more, but please do it at a Miami forum.
