Leon Washington: A Weapon Unused is a Useless Weapon

There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to the Jets offense.

Agree but the INT's made us look much worse yesterday. Regardless that we did not run more as the stats coming in suggested we should have this still should have been a 3 TD blowout.

I like the fact that we appear to have many weapons at our disposal. Stuckey looks great. Leon as mentioned is a game changer and TJ has been better this year when given the rock.

Was nice to see Keller mixed in as well.

I did not understand the Chatman carries yesterday. Anyway, this offense has the potential to be explosive if we ever gel on a HC-OC-QB level. Right now we seem to have those 3 key decision makers all on different pages.

I agree 100%, but this was the first time I've seen him used correctly as you say, all year.

yeah we seem to do too much of whatever idea the cs has heading into the game.

tj was not used properly yesterday which if favre is on wouldn't be a problem.

I would like to see better in game adjustments to what works.

We don't want to tire him. Remember, that ball is heavy and Leon is very small.

Also everytime he steps on the field a big hit could destroy his fragile little body and end his career.

....

That is why we employ him on punts and kickoffs, because it's not like the opposing players try to hit the returner hard or anything.

i may be wrong...as usual

Was barry Sanders any bigger than Leon? I remember barry to be around same height and weight was in low 200's

LEON is the man and EM is so phucking stupid not to realize this!!!

barry was listed as 203 ..leon is listed as 202.. both 5'8"

but remember .. everyone was smaller back then.. so barry appeared a bit bigger.. and leon appears smaller..

BUT all that being said.. Leon is amazing.. i really hope he isnt on that diuretic list that i heard that he was.

he has incredible talent. funny how people were going to crucify him last week because of the punt he flubbed ( which i realize.. sucked) even sweetness had his bad games.. but if you look at the short career.. leon has shown real growth...

did i mention he has moves :D

I did a comparison before, I remember him being bigger than Westbrook. You're right, that's why it's a hollow argument as I've said repeatedly. Leon is not that small that he can't play. For god's sakes, Darren Sproles, Steve Slaton and Mewelde Moore I believe are all smaller.

Brian Westbrook is bigger than Leon Washington, Washington is not 200lbs, not a chance.

Their "listed" numbers are:

Leon: 5'8, 202

Westbrook: 5'10, 203

I don't think Westbrook is anything under 215 and I don't think Leon is anything over 190. Not only that, but Westbrook brings some height. He also has played in a pass happy offense for years that doesn't ask him to carry the ball more than 20 times a game often. He makes a lot of his yardage running, yes, but a lot also through the air on screen passes.

Leon probably is not an every down back, but we won't know for certain until we have given him a chance to do so.

But as long as Thomas Jones is here, who I'm a fan of, he will never get that chance. Time will tell but both Jones and Leon should be getting the ball more. Let Favre throw it 30 times a game, but have the touches by the backs be 20 and 10, not 14 and 3.

The Jets have used Leon a little more of late, but still not enough. I don't see him as an every down back, but they still need to use him more than they have been. Aside from special teams, I would like to see him get 10-15 touches per game either as a back or a receiver.

Every time he touches that ball there is a chance he will take it to the house. To me it's simple...

More touches for Leon = more touchdowns for the Jets.

67 yards and gets only 3 ****ing carries.

You couldn't make that **** up!

I hear ya but Leon does ALOT of running on special teams, so he needs rest. He cant field all the punts and most of the kickoffs, and still touch the ball 20 times on offense. Not realistic.

Listed at 5'8, 203lbs. Again, I think this is taking #'s away from his weight. Have to believe Barry was in the 215-220 range. I don't think he was as small as 5'8 either, but maybe. All these height & weight numbers from the NFL are always skewed.

You do know that 215, 220 is the low 200's, right old man? Senile? :)

No way was Barry 203, not a chance. I saw him play for three, four years, I think thats enough time to garner up an opinion of his weight.

Last I checked Barry played from 89 to 98. I was born in 88. So sure I was watching from the crib for a couple of years, but not them all. :)

Still have that hideous 97 Lions Jets game on video too. Ugh.

i have been saying this for close to two years now.. leon is a special player.. he has moves that RBs dream of having. Unfortunately he is small and that will probably keep him from being one of the greats.

he really isn't all that small, he is short, yeah, but he is very stout. its not like he is a light player at all.

and...being short does not mean you can't be an every down back.

next to TJ he looks small.. but honestly i have not been impressed with TJ..i would love to see Leon be an every down back... if i was ever to wear a jersey of a corrent Jet ( i only wear jerseys of guys who arent playing) I would be sporting a #29..

I just think he is the most exciting player on the team... and one of the more exciting players i have seen in ages.

LW's perfect role is as a change of pace back and a screen/dump pass threat out of the backfield. When used in that role, he excels, period. Problem is this offense has been so sporadic, that it may be 3 weeks before they use him like that again.
