124
ProFootballTalk.com SAINTS RELEASE MEHLHAFF, GRAHAM Posted by Josh Alper on October 29, 2008, 8:35 a.m. There will be open auditions for both kicking positions in New Orleans over the bye week. For the second time this season the Saints are looking for a new kicker and a new punter after releasing Taylor Mehlhaff and Ben Graham. Mehlhaff was drafted in the sixth round last April but lost a training camp battle to Martin Gramatica. He was brought back to the team in week 6 after Gramatica missed potential game-winning field goals against Denver and Minnesota/was placed on injured reserve. Mehlhaff may have sealed his fate by missing an extra point on London
NIGHT STALKER
I just don't understand Ben Graham. It's like he hit rock bottom in the blink of an eye over the past two years...what happened to those "helicopter" punts he was famous for?

NS hw was punting the ball when he first got here that was tough to catch- that led into short shank punts- go figure.
#27TheDominator
I think that when he came around he was unique, but other punters do it now. That means returners can practice against it and the novelty is no longer effective. I don't look at this as him hitting rock bottom, sound like he had a pretty good day 42 yards per in bad conditions?

I hear you, but wasn't this the guy in his first training camp that was booming 60 yard punts...I remember those training reports from back then and guys like Justin Miller were having trouble with them...then again, we're talking about Justin Miller. Justin Miller had trouble catching punts from anybody. I think the trouble was from the way he kicked them. The distance was a bonus that has since disappeared. He's 35 yrs old.. leg might just be getting tired and old Yeah, that.
