Rev. Al Sharpton claims columnist used racially insensitive language in Plaxico Burress column

by Frank Della Femina/NJ.com Tuesday October 28, 2008, 9:56 AM

Rev. Al Sharpton Today's Daily News reports that Rev. Al Sharpton has targeted the New York Post for a recent column written about New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress.

Sharpton claims the New York Post's columnist Steve Serby made racially-insensitive comments in this column Monday.

Here is the line by Serby that Sharpton is concerned about:

Good for Tom Coughlin. Good for Coughlin for tightening the noose around Plaxico Burress.

In today's Daily News, Sharpton reacts:

"To make such a blatant racist statement about an African-American football player with a neck injury is completely unacceptable," Sharpton said. "Clearly, the racial connotation is very disturbing. ... This is the verbal reflection of a hanging noose."

Newsflash Al: White people have been hung with nooses too. I bet you'd find plenty of American Indians who have been hung with nooses as well. If he had said the N word, you'd have a point. Without that though, you have nothing.

Al Sharpton is the biggest ****ing racist of them all.

So what's he going to do? Shove Serby in a locker? Or just try to verbal diarrhea him to death?

It's a shake down. Seby and/or Post will just pay him off. He's brilliant, really. Extortion by bullsh*t - and in this politically correct world - he gets away with it - OUT IN THE OPEN.

Gawd Bless the Rev

Here is the main part of the article:

PITTSBURGH - Good for Tom Coughlin. Good for Coughlin for tightening the noose around Plaxico BurressPlaxico Burress .

Burress missed a Saturday treatment he said he wasn't aware he had to attend for his stiff neck and was benched for the first quarter of Giants 21, Steelers 14.

This should have been a column about these tough, iron-willed Road Warriors, who found a way to win the fourth quarter, who found a way to let Eli ManningEli Manning , who threw the winning 2-yard TD pass to Kevin BossKevin Boss and was not sacked, win his duel with Ben Roethlisberger, who was intercepted four times and sacked five.

But then along comes Burress, whose latest, tired, mindless, selfish stunt could have cost his team dearly.

There was great irony as Burress sat alone at the end of the bench, a banner directly behind him: the words "ZERO TOLERANCE" in gold lettering against a black background sandwiching a Steelers insignia.

After being rewarded with that fat new contract, the $35 Million Question now becomes: Will the message ever get through?

Burress has plenty of money, so the 45G he was fined last week was merely a deck chair off the Queen Mary. Take away Gameday from a proud Gameday Warrior and you hit him where it hurts.

"You gotta follow the regulations and rules of the team," Coughlin said.

Here are my thoughts....

Sharpton wants to throw out his "racism" defense again...then perhaps the tagline should instead say: Good for Plaxico Burress. Good for Burress for being given a $35 million dollar contract, and then somehow assuming the rules do not apply to him. Who cares about the team? I got my money, screw 'em.

But no, that would never do, because people like Sharpton only want to use a tired, worn-out, ineffective argument that people get sick of hearing. Like 124 mentioned, if something really racist and hateful had been said, that would be another issue. However in this case nothing was said that could be considered offensive.

The only thing offensive to Burress and Sharpton is the truth. And that truth is that rules apply to everyone. Just because you play a professional sport and earn alot of money, or just because you are a nationally known activist and civil rights leader, it does not mean you get a pass. Plaxico cost himself and his team, bottom line. Now when the truth is made known in the media, nuts like Sharpton start spewing their usual crud.

In my opinion this is why society is in such a $hitty condition. Nobody takes responsibility for their actions. I see it everyday in school, and many of you see it in your day to day lives. It is always someone else's fault.
