This article's not even debatable.

You'd get more of a discussion if you said:

LEON WASHINGTON FOR OVP*

*Only Valuable Player

Hopefully Brett Favre improves his decision making ability and surpasses young Leon in the race for team MVP.

Otherwise they won't be going to the playoffs.

Throwing directly to the other team keeps the defense on its toes. They never know when to expect it, it keeps DB's honest.

Seriously though, Favre needs to improve his decision making is a must but this team just needs to gel better. Mangini and his staff have done a poor job at MAXimizing (hah get it!) this teams capabilities. We run when we should pass and pass when we should run. Hopefully we get to see a good balance this Sunday, seems that the short passing game really beat up Buffalo last week. A good run game can get some of those LB's to come up quick and that short slant pass Favre loves would be great to set up some good YAC. But of course, the best way to set that up is a solid run game. I feel like I'm making the most obvious statements possible but am I alone in feeling that we aren't doing the obvious?

Just my opinion, but I believe that Jenkins is the MVP. He makes players around him better and enables things to be switched up.

Washington is situational.

Good point we have our offensive and defensive MVP's right there.

I said that before they played a game. Jenkins was the single most important factor for this team (that was pre-Favre).

But you are right, Jenkins impact has been incredible. You can not run on this team right now. Amazing turn around in that regard.

Jenkins is definitely the defensive MVP... but he spends so much time on the friggin' bench it's hard to get to fired up about him.

Agreed... I remember one play on Sunday where KC had a nice gain on the ground and immediately realized why when I saw #77 lumbering back onto the field from the sideline.

He's irreplaceable at this point, as the defense is night and day based on him being in there.

The thing I was going to say about Jenkins is he's the rock, he keeps the defense together and is definitely the linchpin of that group. LW breaks off the type of play the lifts the spirit and morale of this team while it rips the heart of the opponent. Every time he touches the ball you hold your breath a little in excitement. I think comparing the two is hard to do as you can't really determine who is truly "more valuable." As previously stated it'd have to be broken up offensive/defensive.

I think it's simple... the offense can and does function without Leon, while the defense is extremely porous without Jenkins.

You're completely correct. I guess for me Leon is a guy that can and does win games for you. Any way you slice it IMO it's nice to have them both.

Why run when it's soo easy to pass??

I don't think we have an MVP to be honest but Revis is our best player

Top performers:

Revis

Jenkins

Ellis

Leon

Pace

Thomas

The rest are meh at best..

Im Rhodes' biggest fan...but he does not belong w/ these 3 guys in terms of production this year...

He's been great this year, just because he hasn't been making all sorts of big plays (INT's, forced fumbles etc.)he's still been excellent in deep coverage and run support, when asked to blitz he's caused problems for QB's (when asked to blitz properly may I add). I've been very happy with Rhodes this season and I think if he does get hurt at some point this season, you wouldn't be long finding out how valuable he really is.

Because when you play football in the Northeast, and you want to succeed in January football (playoffs) you need to be able to stop the run as well be able to run it yourself.

The Jets were doing so well on that formula this offseason, until the idiotic Favre signing.

id like to see Washington get the majority of the carries in 09. I think he needs to be on the field a lot more than he has been. T.Jones is a pretty good RB, but I prefer Washingtons explosiveness and versatility in the passing game to T.Jones's toughness. Id rather see a role reversal as Washington the feature RB and Jones as the change of pace guy(short yardage)

Personally, I want Beanie Wells or Knowshawn Moreno to get the majority of the handoffs in 09.

In 08 though, it should be Leon, I agree.

Leon Washington attempting to block a blitzing linebacker is an ugly picture.

Well, maybe he's not a complete safety then. In fact, our entire D needs to step it up in the turnover department. Slow getting to fumbles, Int's, etc., and when given the opportunity to intercept, they either tip or drop it. Very disappointed in this defense creating turnovers.

You can't put that on Rhodes though. He's doing what he's asked and doing a dman good job of it. Teams tend to avoid him, when he's in deep coverage they look to dump it off more often than not. I think he's a great safety having a great season, he doesn't need to make those plays to be a stud.

Thomas has been barely average again this season IMO. I seriously don't like him at all as a player!

I was joking about how bad our pass defense is..

Still, I believe that whole have to run the ball well in the NE thing is a bit of an exaggeration..

The most dominant teams the AFCE has seen have all been at least comparably as good passing the ball as running it, and in most cases better..

Going back to 1990 teams with 12 or more wins who went to at least the AFCC and didn't lose in the northeast..

NE 07 #1 passing, #13 rushing

NE 06 #12 passing, #12 rushing

NE 04 #11 passing, #7 rushing

NE 03 #9 passing, #27 rushing

NY 98 #4 passing, #13 rushing

BF 93 #11 passing, #8 rushing

BF 91 #4 passing, #1 rushing

BF 90, #10 passing, #7 rushing
