Gainzo
crybaby pats* fans isn't the story here this is the story; “That the N.F.L. would choose to have fewer viewers for select games again this year is an indication of its interest in moving toward a pay television model.” 19.99 for the jets pats game think about it If you live in the NY or Boston metro areas you get the game for free anyway. I don't see the problem. BTW: If Arlen and his bumchums at Comcast put the NFL Network on the basic tier (like ESPN, TNT, TBS, etc) then this wouldn't be an issue. Jared
It is a product. They can choose to show it or not show it however they wish. They aren't obligated to play football games on Sunday and show them free of charge to the world.
jack48
Nice to see some our Senators focusing on the hard hitting issues of the day. Using the Week 17 Pats & Giants last year as an example of viewer interest is disingenuous to say the least. The Pats were trying to become the first team to ever go 16-0 in the regular season. If that game was the 49ers & Browns I can guarantee you the NFL wouldn't have put it on regular TV. IF you believe that the NFL should not be a renegade league, and that it requires regulation by the Federal Government, then someone from among our elected officials should be exercising oversight. Now I realize that Arlen has it in for the Pats. But that is just your typical , corrupt politico abusing his power. Point is, someone has to focus somewhat on the league. You cannot argue that they should be doing more important things. Why regulate if you do not enforce? Saying there are more important things to do is a specious argument. Forcing the NFL to accept a lower fee for the broadcast rights to their programming? Why should they be treated any differently than other cable channels... If the NFL was doing something wrong, then the gov't can step in. What exactly are they doing wrong?

Lil Bit Special
If Arlen Specter cares about the fans and their access to football games he should force Comcast to put the NFL Network on the basic tier so it is available to everyone. COMCAST is the one who is keeping America from viewing NFL network games. THEY are the ones who decided to put the NFL Network on a pay tier. WHY? To save them money. Comcast doesnt want to pay the NFL 55 cents for every one of their subscribers. They want customers to buy a sports package for 5 bucks that they can profit off of. THEY are using their rights given to them by the FCC to prevent the NFL Network from being on their network. Know the facts. Specter is a shill for Comcast. He is trying to do the dirty work for one of his campaign supporters. Nothing more.
