124
ProFootballTalk.com NFL PLAYERS LOVE/HATE BELICHICK Posted by Mike Florio on October 30, 2008, 9:43 a.m. A Thursday item in the Tampa Tribune has alerted us to a Sunday item in the New York Times regarding a 2007 poll of NFL players regarding the coaches for whom they
Green DNA
4 of the top 5 are black, that's interesting. The fact that Herm is in the top 5 also makes the list more of a popularity list than effectiveness list.
Jetsfan1015
The wording in the article is horrible. Did the question ask who they want to least play, as in play against or did it ask who they least wanted to play for? If the question was asked like it was written, it leaves alot open for interpretation. Either way I dont think I would want to play for Mangini either. Irish Jet
Take out Petrino and that's some damn good company to be in. That being said, Mangini is still teh suck.
Bergen Jet
Herm is in the top 5 for coaches players want to play for. I know he is a player's coach and I know he is as soft as a pillow on his guys but this is a sad statement for the desire of today's athletes. You pick Herm KNOWING you don't have a shot of winning anything big? So Club Ed is more important to the players who voted than having a shot to win the big one... ZachEY
Just logged in to post this. Saw it on INFL. Players were asked which coaches they'd most like to play for, and which they'd least Top 5 Coaches (most want to play for) 1. Dungy 2. L. Smith 3. Belichick 4. Herm 5. Tomlin Bottom 5 Coaches (least want to play for) 1. Coughlin 2. Mangini 3. Gruden 4. Petrino 5. Belichick Same old Jets. It's unbelievable that on every list, we make our way to just about the most embarrassing position on it. I'm also going to go ahead and say we're the worst, because the guy in front of us won the Super Bowl last year, and the guy behind us won recently, and is one of the most well respected coaches in the league. And, this isn't an ESPN.com poll, it's the NFLPA.

According to INFL, they asked which coach you'd most like to play for, and which you'd least like to play for. To address the other comment, they talked about the Black coaches, and relatability to the players. It's not a list of the best coaches, but it's certainly bad, and not unexpected, to see Eric Mangini as the 2nd least popular.
Blackout
being in the same catagory as Belichick and Coughlin is honorable

Jetlag
This poll was taken in 2007, I think both Coughlin and Mangini have softened a little since then and are more willing to hear out players. I'd be curious to see if the lists are still the same. BTW on the most hated, 3 of those coaches have won a Super Bowl. Sounds good to me.

serphnx
Maybe he should stop throwing players under the bus, and being a ****ty coach in general. The young hard workers don't want to play for him because he publically blames them for everything (see the Stuckey BS) and the vets don't want to play for him because his gameplans are awful (Favre looks unhappy, and players are beginning to question the playcalling). Our situation is a lot like Billick's last stand.

Boozer76
I find it amusing that this poll was taken last season, and then promptly thereafter we signed Pace, Faneca, Woody, and Richardson and had no issues trading for Favre and Jenkins. We made the biggest FA splash of any team. This is why these "polls" are about as worthwhile as a GJ&H guarantee.

We made the biggest FA splash of any team. This is why these "polls" are about as worthwhile as a GJ&H guarantee. That just proves that some players only care about the money. There is a reason Belichick is on both lists. Some players will sacrifice playing time and cash for a chance to win a Super Bowl, while others don't care as long as they get paid. I'm not disparaging the Jets, I'm just trying to make a point.

Gotta disagree with you there buddy. That was an absolutely horrible pass and in real time Stuckey would have had to have been a Force user to know Favre would throw it ahead of time, and then also to send both defenders flying out of the way. Frankly, I found it absolutely laughable, and not only am I with Stuckey on this, but there are articles written both in fantasy football and in actual "journalism" that take my viewpoint. Doesn't necessarily mean I'm right or anything mind you, just means that I'm certainly not alone in thinking it.
