It was a kickoff but you are right that was very smart. I liked how he had to explain the rule to the ref. I guess this coaching staff does some stuff right. Sperm Edwards
That's coaching. No one innately knows that. It was clearly taught, and practiced, under the watchful eye of our best coach. That doesn't take away that Leon made a great play on it.

I'm pretty sure Brad Smith was one of them.

#27TheDominator
The only reason it looked odd was because he had one foot in bounds. As long as one foot is out he's out of bounds, but it looks odd. Seemed like he didn't think of it too quickly because he waited, hoping for it to bounce out of bounds first. Big Boy
Talk about a player with his head screwed on straight. The play where he stepped out of bounds and then grabbed the ball on the kickoff was damn impressive. Nice job, probably one of the smartest plays we have seen this year form any team/any game. You don't see a player do that too often...nice job Leon!

yisman
Missed the game for a Buffett Concert, please explain what he did and what the situation was. Thanks http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/gamecenter/playbyplay/NFL_20081102_NYJ@BUF R.Lindell kicks 62 yards from BUF 30 to NYJ 8, out of bounds. L.Washington was out of bounds when first touching ball; ball considered out of bounds by rule. the kickoff was bouncing along the sideline but wasn't going to make it out of bounds. Leon placed one foot on the chalk and then stretched for the ball. The refs originally ruled it as ball at the 8, but Leon argued successfully that one foot was out of bounds. The ref agreed and threw the flag for kickoff out of bounds.
SMC
That was Whestoff's coaching because Chad Morton did the same exact thing a couple of years ago after he went to the Skins. They asked him after that game about the play and he said Whestoff taught him that. It was funny how the ref screwed it up in the beginning. I remembered the Morton play and was screaming "Penalty!!!" when I saw the ref going to mark the ball out at the 15 yard line.
