The Jets are #2 in the NFL in sacks

I think the statistic is a little misleading, because I don't think their pass rush is anywhere near the top 5 in the league... when they rush four, they seem to get stood up very often, giving the QB plenty of time to find the open man. I'd rather see them apply more constant pressure, even if the result was more incompletions instead of sacks.

Maybe an int here and there.

The Jets have actually done a fairly good job of getting pressure while rushing only 3 or 4 players over the course of the season. One of Jenkins' sacks against the Bills yesterday was out of a 3 man rush.

Also note that the majority of sacks around the league come out of a blitz package. This isn't a complaint exclusive to the Jets.

I'm not saying that they never get a push without blitzing, but I think that there are way too many times that the QB has all day back there when they rush 3 or 4.

I'd be curious to see where they rank as a team in QB hurries and hits.

Looking back how funny is all those who defended D-Rob night and day? I dont know if I have ever seen such a big difference in run defense and sacks in one year in history.

ALY:

2006 dead last

2007 dead last

2008 4th

Jenkins > Haynesworth. Suck it bongo.

D'Rob was NOT a true NT. He was trying to be but was simply miscast. He gave 100% never whined or bitched while he was here. ::GoJets:

I really am starting to doubt whether there is one player more valuable to a team than Kris Jenkins is to us.

There is not. Given the control group we have in the past 8 games, he's likely to be the most dominant Jets D-lineman since Klecko.

I'm not really a pat myself on the back kind of guy and its not like this was tough to call...bu on the other site, I started a thread about the impact that Kris Jenkins could potentially have on this defense. I claimed he was the difference in our team being a top 5 defense or being doodoo. Well, we are in 2 of the major categories but our pass defense is making it impossible for us to crack the top 5. I really thought our secondary would have a field day if our front line was playing they way they are right now.

Kris Jenkins and Sean Ellis have been outstanding this year. And it has made it much easier on our LB core.

What makes the sack totals really impressive to me is the fact that it's not comming from just one or two players near 10.

Pace, Thomas and Bowens have 4. Jenkins with 3. And Ellis has the lucky #7. An opponent never knows who's comming and from where. Revis joined the parade, against the Bills, on a corner blitz; came up with a strip and fumble recovery too.

IMO...the best is yet to come.

Sort the QB list by sacks and look who's in the top 3:

JT O'Sullivan, Matt Cassel and Marc Bulger.

We play all three in the next five weeks. This could be fun.

I think O'Sullivan was benched in favor of Hill in SF. Either way a high school QB would be a better option than the two of them, it should be sack and turnover central those games too

I remember you calling that and I totally agreed at the time.

I knew Pace and especially Jenkins would help, but I didn't expect top 5 in the first half of the season.
