villain_the_foe
http://www.nfl.com/standings?category=conf YES YOU HEARD ME RIGHT!!!!! After all the bitching that I've been reading on here about "Favre this" and "Passing Defense That", the NEW YORK JETS are ranked on the top of the AFC East and #3 in the AFC as a whole. The Steelers and the Titans are only ahead of us. For the whinners (Including myself), just sit back and let the Jets do its thing. We can beat the Titans. We, RIGHT NOW are in a situation where we can fight into a playoff bye if we win the games that we're supposed to win!

Jetkid94
im very confused. How come during the season the head to head with the pats doesent show now, but it would after the season? But it is a good feeling knowing we havent played that great and are only 1 game back of being the second best team in the AFC. too bad were in the toughest ****ing division=( times like this where I wish we were in the nfc west and have three 2-6 teams LOL. aec4
If the season ended today, we'd be the 6th seed, not the 3rd seed.. Let me explain why. There is a 3 way tie for the division. BUF, NYJ and NE. 1st tiebreaker for 3+ teams is a combined record against the other 2. BUF is 0-1. NYJ is 1-1. NE is 1-0. NE gets the division. So TEN is #1, PIT #2, NE #3, DEN #4. Now for the #5 slot, BAL, BUF, NYJ are tied. You break the tie in the division 1st. NYJ beats out BUF. So now it's between BAL and NYJ. BAL is 5-3 in conference, NYJ is 4-3. BAL gets #5. NYJ gets #6 beating out BUF on Head to head. Now of course, most of this is meaningless 1/2 way through the season.
Boozer76
And I am okay with that right now I really hope we start peaking in week 14 or 15....and ride the wave through the playoffs I am as well. I think it's silly to have expected a team that has 2 new key defensive players, and a new QB that showed up only 2 weeks before the regular season to play top notch football without mistakes early on. Having played some pretty shoddy football we are sitting at 5-3. That's impressive no matter how you slice it. We have alot of room for improvement and I firmly believe we will improve this year. Favre will start playing better football, I think we can all agree on that. So long as Jenkins stays healthy there isn't a back in the league that's going to run on us (a big reason why I believe we can and WILL beat TEN). That's been established already thus far. Our pass D needs to improve. I think the method we are going to have to go to improve pass D is to improve our already solid pass rush. A solid pass rush hides a suspect pass defense. On offense I think Jones has been serviceable. He needs to pick it up and I believe he can. He's running better now than he did in the beginning of the season. Look, like I said before, we have the potential to be a very damn good football team. If we start putting it all together we are going to have a chance to beat any team in the NFL. I have not been able to say that since 98-99.

Boozer76
I would say we have to be the only AFC team with great potential to only get better. Bingo. I feel like we have seen the best of what TEN, NE, BUF, PIT, BAL, DEN and SD have to offer this season. On the other hand I don't think we've come close to our peak. The only other team in the mix that I see room for decent improvement is MIA ironically.

We're still missing a good red zone scheme and deep threat receiver. Hopefully we'll have both figured out very quickly. Is Clowney that deep threat? San Diego have not peaked yet and they NEVER do until late in the season. I was at the Saints game in Wembley a two weeks ago and LT looks MUCH better than he did early on. If he starts running like we all know he can, the Chargers will be very dangerous going forward IMO. Miami like you said have been improving like nothing normal since the start of the season. They also have a piss-poor schedule so we can't sleep on them at all. Not convinced Baltimore have peaked yet either, then again they could completely fade away. Their pretty unpredictable but Flacco seems to be developing at an alarming rate. We do have a lot of room for improvement, but I see no reason to think that the other teams in the AFC are just as capable. Heck even Matt Cassell is looking better with more experience. SD, I will give you them. Especially given how weak the AFC west has been. BAL-I'm just not sold. Yes Flacco ghas looked pretty good at times but he has looked awful at others. Bottom line he's a rookie and it's gonna hurt them sooner or later. His future does look bright though.

I'm not completely sold on Baltimore either BUT as you said, Flacco has been awful at times. The thing that scares me is that those times tend to be earlier on the seaosn. In the last two games he looks like a new QB. They're unpredictable at this point but I certainly wouldn't rule them out in terms of improving. Ray Rive has been running very well for them and McGahee is still to come back at 100%.

The AFC is WIDE OPEN this year. Whichever team gets hot at the end will win it. And i also have firm belief that that AFC team will also win the SB. Dunno why, but it's just a feeling i have. There's not one team out there that hasn't struggled against weaker opponents. Dunno why alot of you guys get so hard on your team when that happens. But anyway, no matter how a team wins, it's still a win and there's no guarantee they'll be "weak" due to the way they won. I'm more excited about the AFC playoff race THIS season than i have been in quite some time. Just sit back and enjoy the ride would be my advice. Thats exactly what i'm doing. Woohoo! I completely agree with you. This has been a very exciting year so far, especially as a jet fan. Yeah we lost to Oakland and got blown out on monday night football, but we have seen 6 TD passes from the ol'vet and though I get on this dude the most, Thomas Jones is having a better year than last. If we were to outright run off with with the AFC East then it would have given me the feeling that we simply "bought" the division. Thats not the case. We see the hard work being put in on all fronts and I think what the key is will be the type of love that Bret Favre has for his teammates and the game. Could you imagine if we actually go out this year SB Champs after the struggles that we've obviously seen this year? That would put the Jets back on the map as well as put Brett in a league of his own. Who ever wins the AFC east will go far. Its always been a tough division overall, This "tie" will bring out the best in all the teams. That will boil over into the playoffs and if that team is us that I really feel that we have a great chance at co-hosting a SB this year. Damn if feels good to type those words...SUPER BOWL! Jets Babe
what we need to do is learn how to PUT A TEAM AWAY. blow the ****ing team out of the water and leave them with absolutely no chance. this happened with zona and kc. we had a nice early lead and gave up a little bit towards the end. we need to play 100% all the way through!!! This is true. We cant complain too much about that situation though as long as we come out with a win. With Penny, We were blowing 4th qtr leads and also blowing 4th qtr comebacks with Ints. We have a solid Defense which we didnt have and a QB whos playing overall consistent for 4 qtrs. There's more to add, but if this gets us at 3rd best in the AFC then the NFL needs to be scared once the pressure is really turned on.

If it is going to take total and complete dominance to make you happy, then you are setting yourself up to be dissapointed. dominance? no. the first half against buffalo was brutal. Our offense barely saw the field for a good stretch, and when it did, we had to settle for 3 FG attempts, which yet again, one was missed. Again showing us they cant finish drives and get the big points. the defense bent but didnt break. They made 2 big plays in the 1st half (fumble rec, int fot td) however they were on the field too long. They need to do a better job stopping a team on 3rd down (Buffalo was 6-8 on 3rd downs in 1st half). 2 long drives by Buffalo is unacceptable. We were lucky they didnt get points here. 2nd half was a totally different story. We controlled the clock. We stopped them on 3rd down (2-5 in 2nd half) Our offense was better. Best part of 2nd half was the 8:41 drive the jets had in the 4th quarter. That is something I havent seen very often out of this team. That determined the game. If we have a short drive there, game might be completely different.

Admittedly, it didn't start off well. But adjustments were made, and the fact is, we had the lead for most of the game. That's the way it's supposed to work. After the first quarter I never had that sickening feeling I usually get when the team plays. We were outplaying Buffalo all around and I expected to win that game, which I rarely do these days. All and all, I would consider it a complete game by the offense, defense and special teams.
