Election Time: Vote Joe Klecko to the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Unfortunately, Klecko's stats don't match up with the other guys on the list, and that's all these guys have to fall back on when making their decisions, because you know damn well they're not sitting down and watching hours of tape before casting their votes. How many Jets games in the early 80's do you think these guys were watching? They can do a quick search and see that Kevin Greene has 160 career sacks though, compared to the 24 "official" sacks that Klecko recorded in his career. If the Jets had won the Super Bowl in '82, maybe that would've put him over the top. Does Fred Dean get in if he didn't force his way out of San Diego to be part of 2 Super Bowl teams?

That's bull****. When guys like Roger Wherle, who played his entire career for ****ty Cardinals teams got in a couple of years ago, the SB argument is meaningless. How do explain Art Monk taking forever to get in despite three SB rings?

The Hall of Fame is an individual honor. The Super Bowl is a team accomplishment.

The Hall of Fame has no excuse for having selectors who have such a limited knowledge and understanding of the game.

Until Klecko and several others get in, the Hall is a fraudulent enterprise.

Do we even know how many sacks Klecko had his entire career.

I thought they didn't start keeping tracks of sacks till 1981 ?

Defensive guys in my mind kind of get the short stick when it comes to HOF balloting.

Guys like Klecko, Randy Gradishar, and Ken Riley barely get a sniff (Well Gradishar did last year) because they were overshadowed by the great Steelers teams of the 70's who got all the media hype.

Klecko get overshadowed by Joe Greene

Gradishar by Lambert

Riley by Mel Blount.

Andre Tippett was in that group till he got in last year. Hopefully Klecko gets the call this year.

That's bull****. When guys like Roger Wherle, who played his entire career for ****ty Cardinals teams got in a couple of years ago, the SB argument is meaningless.

Wherli boasts 7 Pro-Bowl selections, 40 career INT's and 22 fumble recoveries. These are numbers these voters can use to justify their vote when they don't have first-hand knowledge of a player. The officially recorded statistics for Klecko do not help his argument. Again, these guys probably saw very little of these players in the pre-Internet, pre-Sunday Ticket, pre-Thursday/Sunday night era and are not knocking down the doors at NFL films to get footage to analyze.

How do explain Art Monk taking forever to get in despite three SB rings?

Because Monk was a compiler and not a HOF'er in my opinion. If Al Toon didn't have 42 concussions, he puts up similar numbers. BTW - they're even in All-Pro (1) and Pro-Bowl (3) selections. Was Monk a clearly better receiver than Henry Ellard? How about Irving Fryar? His stupid Cal Ripken-like streak is one of the reasons I think people remember him being a better player than he really was.

The Hall of Fame is an individual honor. The Super Bowl is a team accomplishment.

Yes, but guys who play for Super Bowl teams get more press, and thus, more recognition. It's also another one of those stats that the voters can point to as justification and an area that Klecko lacks when compared to others, which hurts his cause.

The Hall of Fame has no excuse for having selectors who have such a limited knowledge and understanding of the game.

I agree 100%.

Shawn, this thread was brought up again because Klecko did not make the cut announced today

Guess I should have looked at the date. DUH !!!!!

That being the case, then fact that Kevin Greene, Doleman are on that list makes it a joke cause Klecko was better than either one them.

Klecko is going to be one of those guys that will have to wait I guess until the Veterans comittee picks him.

Klecko was involved in some kind of insurance fraud involving a gas refinery. I don't know if he did any jail time, and don't remember how it was all resolved. I wonder if it has anything to do with the snub.

Only reason I can think of that he wouldn't even be considered

He's been eligible since before any of that happened so no.

Charles Haley waved his dick in his teammates faces and jerked off to completion in team meetings yet he's a finalist.

Stop trying to apply logic to this.

Klecko is being snubbed because he was a Jet. Plain and simple.

You 100% right on, when the Jets win the Super Bowl the Jets will get national recognition this will hopefully give a national stage to the Jets greats and organization

It must be in your little world, because there are lots of people feel that Klecko belongs in the hall of fame. I guess you did not see Klecko play

I did, he was very good but not great.

It ain't the Hall of Very Good.
