did anybody SEE that last night? They had holograms talking live of Will I Am and Jessica Yellin, from Chicago to the studio-it was blowing my mind..here it is no politics, just tech-amazing...

I watched NBC last nite, as usual, so I missed it.

I did see the graphics and they were awesome. But what I saw this morning on CNN stopped me dead in my tracks. The male host throws it over to Kieran Chetry, who is standing in front of a panel of experts. Her legs just left my mouth agape. The last thing on my mind was our new president-elect. What a babe. Anyone else catch this?

SJ, on my son, I just took her out of my post because I could not find an image to do her justice. She was on right before what I just described and my head was swimming. Her eyes are insane. What a face.

yea those hologram were pretty cool.. but was that just good camera tricks or were there really holograms in full 3D right in the middle of the studio??

In my professional opinion (hahaha, I can't believe I just got to say that), they're not real camera tricks.

She was shot on a green screen, with 3 different cameras that were carefully positioned in the same place as the CNN studio cameras.

Wolf Blitzer was given a relative eyeline, as was she, and they could hear each other through earpieces.

The image of Jessica was then Keyed in to the shot, and because the cameras were the same distance and focal length, it gave the illusion that she was standing there.

The changing camera angles gave the illusion of depth in what was really just multiple (3 I think) 2D images.

The 3D Capitol Building they did was much cooler, but a similar concept involving a 3D model and digital 'camera' that moved around matching the motions of the real camera.

In both cases, the commentators on screen could not actually see what was there, as it wasn't really there.

EDIT: Much cooler, and technologically impressive, was the touch screen stuff. That tech can be found at www.perceptivepixel.com
