The Jets need to learn how to FINISH other teams..

Bottom line, end of story. The Jets are currently ranked 3rd in the AFC. Yes, you read that correct. 3rd. However, it is an ugly 3rd. Two weeks ago we were talking about firing Mangini and now we're talking playoffs.

I think that in order to be seriously considered as a playoff team, the Jets need to do one thing, and one thing only:

FINISH the job.

Week 1: We had a pretty nice lead (20-7) at the end of the 4th quarter. All of the sudden, the Dolphins started coming back, and it was 20-14. They were one touchdown pass away from a win on us. Rell-rev picked off Penny in the endzone, but it shouldn't have came down to that.

Week 4: After 2 consecutive losses, we played Zona...absolutely shutting them out in the first half. We had a 34-0 lead. All of a sudden, Kurt Warner goes ape-**** on us and the game is close..34-21. They even scored more points in the 4th...but we ended up taking the win away.

Week 8: We made Thigpin look like Favre, and Favre looked like Thigpin. Another late rally, but we shot them down thankfully.

The point is, 3 out of our 5 wins were almost losses. Our defense needs to learn how to stop these 4th quarter rallies from happening. I know we stopped the rallies in the end, but we can't take anymore chances...these rallies need to completely stop, and the defense needs to play 100% all the way through. 4 quarters of defense, not 3.

You're exactly right.

I never feel like the game is over with this team, I always think we're going to let the other team back in it. This is mainly because both offensive and defensive co-ordinators seem to go into their shells when we have a big lead.

yup. i want this team to have a 2 score lead and i want to be confident in that lead and say, OK game over.

but of course, the jets never do that.

Yes this would be nice. It isn't anything new though. Been going to the games for 20 years and there are a handful of blowouts.

But definitely against teams like the Chiefs and Rams it would be nice to sit back, watch the game with a big lead and relax a bit.

But the Jets always find a way to make it interesting.

Revis has finished 3 games now. I think we can give him a pass.:D

hey, I'm not selling any sunshine here, I just think of all the things you can point to this week, finishing isn't one of them

I'm much more worried about the team coming out flat and playing down to the rams record

I want to see them flying around and whoopin it up

*sniff* That was beautiful. *sob*

Could not agree more. When they start just rushing 3 and dropping 8 it just seems to lead to trouble.

Unfortunately, pass defense will be a weakness all year. The Jets need a free safety, a nickel back, a dime back and a couple of LBers who can come off of the bench and play pass defense. Some guts by Sutton and Mangini in playing more agressively when they have leads would help. All in all, Mr. T did a great job in filling the holes that he did this past off-season (QB, LG, RT, NT, OLB). Not to be pessimistic in the middle of the year, but this team is still one year away from having all of the pieces to go all the way. But let's see how far we go and hope Brett comes back for at least one more.

Am I mistaken or did we not just finish the Buffalo Bills with an 8+ minute drive making our 6 point lead a 9 point lead with 2:11 to play?

Yeah we did, but more often than not, games that we win are nail biters. Max has been going to games for 20 years...double that for me and nothing is ever easy for this team or its fans.

Honestly off the top of my head I remember a home game I think in the late 80's vs the then Houston Oilers that was a TOTAL blowout (40 to nothing) -- I could be wrong.

I remember the playoff game against the Jaguars in '98 being not a blowout point wise but a game that the Jets "finished them" it was always in control.

Did they blow out the Packers to get into the playoffs a few years ago? I remember blowing out the Colts in the playoffs.

Every other game was either close or a Jets blow out loss. I am exaggerating obviously but there hasn't been many.

September 18, 1988 - the Jets won 45-3.

exactly. pick 6 should not have happened. TJ was doing great...they should have ate up the clock and let TJ tear up the middle.

Typical Jets fans. You agree with each other by completely contradicting one another. They should go into a shell, but they should run? On every ****ing down? The games are nailbiters because we are a bunch of pessimistic pussies that think a 56-35 rout is a "close game". That and because, as DMaynard said, our pass D kind of blows.
